Job Summary: The project Accountant is responsible for tracking project budgets, processing project-related transactions, and financial reporting & compliance in line with donor and organization guidelines.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Prepare, monitor, and manage project budgets, ensuring all expenses are tracked accurately against allocated funds.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze project financial statements
- Compliance & Auditing: Ensure strict adherence to donor guidelines, contract requirements, and accounting standards
- Invoicing & Billing: Manage billing cycles, accounts receivable, and process payments for vendors and subcontractors.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with project teams to assess the financial implications of project scope changes and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- CPA or ACCA qualification, preferably completed or at least at an advanced level.
- A minimum of 5 years of project finance management experience
- Direct experience managing donor-funded projects, preferably World Bank, UN, EU, USAID, FCDO, WFP, or similar.
- Strong knowledge of budgeting, expenditure tracking, financial reporting, audit preparation, internal controls, bank reconciliations, tax compliance, and supporting procurement/payment documentation.
- Experience working with field offices or refugee-response operations would be an added advantage.
- Familiarity with Uganda tax requirements, including withholding tax and VAT treatment, will be useful because the RFP includes specific tax provisions for this contract.
