Job Title: Standard Writer Intern – Internship Paid (No Experience Jobs)

Uganda Christian University (UCU) is an authentic Christian institution established by the Church of Uganda in 1997 in response to a call for quality university education with a Christian perspective. Uganda Christian University replaced the historic Bishop Tucker Theological College which trained clergy and educators during its 84-year history from 1913-1997. The local chief, Hamu Mukasa, granted land for the college to operate in Mukono.
Job Summary: The successful applicant will be a part of the team that will write news stories, features and take photographs on events about or affecting the University and the community. He/she will also sift through views and opinions of the community and write about them for the purposes of informing the rest of the community about the change in the thinking of the community towards issues of common concern. The successful applicant will in addition be given professional handson training in the modern journalistic methods.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- News gathering of UCU community events and its neighbourhood.
- Writing stories, news and editing.
- Photography of events covered.
- Any other official duties assigned by The Standard Supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A recent degree in Mass Communication from UCU with first class honors or second class upper, preferably Print major (Must have not graduated earlier than 2023).
- Must be conversant with modern editing software including In Design and have the ability to design pages for the news paper.
- Must have good writing skills, a desire to look for stories and deliver them in a timely manner.
- Must have strong photography skills.
- Must be able to work under minimum supervision for long hours, weekends inclusive.
- A committed Christian who is honest and trustworthy.
