NASECO has its head office in Kampala and production plant in Nalweyo Kakumiro district.
Job Summary: Oversee fleet operations, inspections, maintenance, safety, compliance, administration, supervision, and efficiency to support reliable seed transport from production sites to markets. Ensures trucks handle heavy loads safely and cost-effectively, integrating mechanical engineering with logistics coordination.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Logistics & Fleet Power (Trucks)
- Operational Command: Plan routes, monitor real-time GPS tracking, and manage seasonal peaks for our seed transport fleet.
- Maintenance Mastery: Oversee pre/post-trip inspections and implement a rigorous preventive maintenance schedule (diagnostics, brakes, tyres).
- Technical Design and planning: Improve loading/offloading processes, modify vehicle loads for equipment haulage, seed transport and optimize axle loads for regulatory compliance (UNRA/Traffic Laws).
- Resource Control: Manage the “Big Three” of logistics: Fuel (efficiency tracking), Tyres (life-cycle analysis), and Spares (inventory management).
Agricultural Mechanization (Tractors & Harvesters)
- Ready for Season: Ensure tractors, planters, and combine harvesters are 100% operational before the first rain hits.
- Field Support: Execute rapid-response diagnostics during planting and harvest to minimize field downtime.
- Operator Excellence: Train and supervise tractor operators on daily fluid checks and safe tillage practices.
Workshop Leadership & Strategy
- The Hub: Manage our central workshop, automating workflows and installing a job-card system for total accountability.
- Technical Supervision: Lead internal mechanics and manage specialist external vendors for high-tech repairs (injection pumps/electronics).
- Financial Intelligence: Prepare and defend the annual maintenance budget; conduct Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis for new fleet acquisitions.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years in fleet management, transport, or logistics (agricultural/heavy vehicles preferred). Competencies:
- Computer/fleet software proficiency, Strong supervisory, communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills, Time management, attention to detail, integrity; ability to work under pressure/extended hours.
- Knowledge Requirements: HSE and OSH laws; cost control/budgeting, Ugandan transport regulations, weighbridge operations and Valid Class B/CE driving license for heavy commercial vehicles.
