Job Summary: We are seeking a local After-sales Technical Support Engineer to support ZTE fixed network PON/OLT projects in Uganda. The role involves project delivery, operations and maintenance, and customer support for major telecom operators. The engineer will provide both on-site and remote technical assistance, troubleshoot network faults, oversee project implementation, and ensure stable FTTH network operations in line with SLA requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Network Operation & Fault Handling Perform daily maintenance, alarm monitoring, data configuration, service debugging, and troubleshooting for ZTE C300/C600 OLT and GPON/EPON/XGS-PON equipment.
  • Address issues such as optical power anomalies, LOS alarms, ONU offline, bit errors, service instability, and outages.
  • Conduct ON link diagnostics, OTDR testing, and fiber fault rectification.
  • After-sales Project Delivery Manage FTTH project deployment, OLT commissioning, service cutover, capacity expansion, version upgrades, and project acceptance.
  • Collaborate with operator NOC and engineering teams to ensure smooth service activation and verification.
  • Customer Technical Support Provide professional English-language technical support to local telecom operators.
  • Handle consultations, complaints, and escalations. Conduct regular network health checks and deliver analysis reports with optimization recommendations.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Management Prepare technical documents, fault reports, and weekly/monthly operation reports.
  • Record typical fault cases and contribute to process optimization for local operations.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:




  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Telecommunications, Network Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in OLT/PON after-sales, operations, or project delivery.
  • Experience with ZTE equipment and Uganda telecom projects is highly preferred.

Professional Skills

  • Familiarity with ZTE C300/C600 OLT and Net Numen N31 systems.
  • Strong knowledge of GPON/EPON/XGS-PON principles, FTTH architecture, and ODN engineering standards.
  • Proficiency in TCP/IP, VLAN, PPPoE, DHCP, IGMP, QOS.
  • Skilled in using optical test tools (power meter, OTDR) for fault location and root cause analysis.
  • Fluent English in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Ability to communicate independently with international customers, prepare reports, and deliver training.

Soft Skills

  • Strong communication, responsibility, and resilience under pressure.
  • Willingness to support 24/7 emergency troubleshooting and adapt to Uganda’s local working environment.

Preferred Conditions

  • Experience with Uganda Major operators FTTH projects.
  • Possession of ZTE/Huawei PON certification, CCNA/CCNP.
  • Familiarity with East African ODN construction and acceptance standards.
