Job Summary: To develop and implement strategies for acquisition, growth and retention of customers within the Bank’s Business & Institutional Banking segment.

The role holder will proactively lead the Bank’s Business & Institutional Banking team(s) and have full accountability to drive business growth, maximize profitability of the segment

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and tactical direction to the bank’s Business & Institutional Banking segment to drive growth in this segment in line with the bank’s business plan.
  • Continuously review and innovate to ensure that the Bank’s customer value proposition(s) are in line with changing Business and Institutional customer needs.
  • Proactively lead customer relationship management in the segment to enhance customer experience, drive value and increase share of wallet.
  • Grow market share in the Business & Institutional Banking segment through new customer acquisition, innovating new products and service offerings for Business Customers
  • Work with other segment heads (Mortgage & Consumer Banking & Microfinance) to ensure that wallet share from existing customers is optimised through offering a varied range of products and solutions.
  • Initiate and build partnerships with key players and stakeholders in the Business & Institutional Banking space.
  • Drive new initiatives and innovations for business development within the business banking segment and ensure that the bank is at the cutting edge in developing solutions that meet business customer needs.
  • Proactively manage credit risk in order to deliver a high performing quality portfolio within the segment.
  • Manage and monitor departmental costs within approved business plans and budgets.
  • Manage the performance and development of staff in the department in line with the set key result areas (KRAs) outlined in their respective performance contracts.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:




  • A Business degree in Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, Statistics, management or any relevant field.

Trainings

  • Possession of a certified banking qualification or master’s degree in a relevant field would be an added advantage.
  • Relevant practical training in business growth in the financial services sector

Skills & Experience

  • 10 years’ experience in the financial services sector with at least 5 in a senior management role.
  • A good understanding of credit risk and portfolio management
  • A good grasp of best practices in business lending.
  • Proven track record of networking and building sustainable business relationships
  • Ability to translate strategy into achievable objectives and to develop tactics and plans for delivery
  • Ability to drive high performance and manage a large multidisciplinary team.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have good negotiation, persuading and selling skills
  • Sound knowledge of general banking law and practices
  • The ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in written form
  • Ability to network and build sustainable business relationships
  • Takes clear accountability, and focuses on delivery of broader corporate goals.
  • Ability to take decisions and progress towards goals in conditions of uncertainty.
  • Ability to demonstrate a positive image and role model bank’s values.
  • Must be a person of impeccable integrity.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Have excellent coordination and organizational skills

Business Behaviours

  • Responsible for the business growth budget for the BIB segment
  • Accountable for financial performance of the BIB segment
