About Organisation:
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) is Uganda’s government body responsible for managing and developing the nation’s energy (electricity, petroleum) and mineral resources for economic growth, focusing on policy, infrastructure (hydro, solar, nuclear), sustainable practices, and exploring oil/gas potential.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible to the Permanent Secretary for performing the following duties:-
- Providing technical support to the Ministry on legal matters pertaining to the operations of the Ministry;
- Preparing and drafting Memoranda of Understanding and Agreements, in accordance with the relevant National and International Laws;
- Reviewing Contracts, Agreements, Resolutions, Policies, Bills in accordance with the relevant National and International Laws;
- Researching and preparing legal briefs and submissions on matters regarding the Ministry;
- Maintaining a database of legal matters and documents of the Ministry for future reference;
- Supporting the Ministry in formulation of legal and regulatory Instruments;
- Preparing work plans, budgets and periodic reports for the Section;
- Supervising and appraising staff in the Section;
- Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Applicants should be Ugandans holding an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Law plus a Masters Degree in Law from a recognized University /Institution as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre.
Working Experience
- Applicants should have a minimum of six (6) years relevant working experience, three (3) of which should have been served at the level of Senior Legal Officer in Government or equivalent level of relevant experience from a reputable organization.
