Job Title: Principal Administrative Officer

Mbarara University of Science & Technology (MUST), commonly known as Mbarara University, is a public university in Uganda. Mbarara University commenced student intake and instruction in 1989. It is one of the eight public universities and degree-awarding institutions in the country. MUST is accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education.
Job Summary: To provide efficient, effective and timely secretariat services to the University Council and its Committees.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Liaising with the Deputy University Secretary for the organization of meetings of Council and Council Committees.
- Preparing and circulating working papers, agenda and minutes of meetings of Council and Council Committees.
- Writing Minutes of Council and Council Committees and decisions as directed by the Deputy University Secretary.
- Following up actions on the decisions made by Council and Council Committees and reporting on their implementation.
- Filing and updating records of the minutes of Council and Council Committee meetings and Council decisions in the minute book.
- Monitoring, evaluating and reporting to the Deputy University Secretary on the performance of outsourced administrative service providers to the University.
- Coordinating the procurement, provision, proper use and maintenance of common user facilities and services.
- Participating in the organization of university events and ceremonies.
- Prepares speeches as assigned.
- Performing any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Masters in Either Public Policy and Administration, Business Administration, Law or Development Studies or any relevant field from a recognized institution.
- An honours bachelor’s degree in Public Policy and Administration, Business Administration, Law, Development Studies or any relevant field from a recognized institution.
- Administrative Officer’s Law Course Certificate.
- Should have at least five (9) years’ experience in Administration, three (3) of which should have been served at the level of Senior Administrative Officer or equivalent level in a reputable organization.
- Should have excellent and demonstrable drafting and writing skills.
- Should have good leadership, interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills.
- Should be a person of high integrity
- Should not be above 45 years of age at the time of application.
