Yalelo (U) Limited is a tilapia fish farm that was established in Uganda in 2019. The farm is located in Butembe, Buikwe district on the shores of Lake Victoria. Yalelo Uganda is a subsidiary of First Wave Group B.V; a Dutch company with a portfolio of aquaculture related assets in Africa. First Wave Group owns and operates Yalelo Zambia, a pioneer of Aquaculture founded in 2011 that has grown quickly to become the leading fish farm in Zambia and among the largest aquaculture farms in Africa.

 

Job Summary: The harvest supervisor is responsible for leading a team of harvesters that are skilled in harvesting the right amount of fish, without causing damage to the fish during harvest and making sure the fish are chilled down to the right temperature as fast as possible.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervising the team of fish harvesters on a daily basis
  • Troubleshoot any harvesting issues and advise on the possible measures.
  • Ensuring quality control of fish during harvesting
  • Upholding the cold chain from when fish are harvested to when they are handed over to the primary processing supervisor.
  • Making sure that the fish are not damaged in the cage and when loaded into bins.
  • Making sure that the right crowding and purse seine techniques are used, to crowd the fish for scooping.
  • Avoid catching an excessive number of fish at once in the purse seine net.
  • Gauging how much fish you have in a net.
  • Ensure the harvest team is well organized and swift in operation and no time should be wasted in the catching process.
  • Ensuring that there is no damage to the product after harvest and that strict hygiene measures are followed.
  • Must be involved in training harvest personnel in their job requirements to meet the needs and enforcing those requirements.
  • Must uphold the cold chain buy understanding the icing techniques and keeping fish cold.
  • Must be able to plan head and work together with the production and processing team to meet the targets.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:




  • At least a diploma in fisheries or aquaculture.
  • Experience in harvesting or fishing is a plus.
  • Very good in mathematics and head calculations.
  • Action and detail oriented.
  • Should be able to work on water most of the time and with the ability to swim.
  • Should be physically fit.
