Job Summary: The Export Declarant is responsible for preparing, verifying, and submitting all export documentation required for the shipment of goods from Uganda. The role ensures full compliance with Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) customs regulations, export laws, and company procedures to guarantee efficient and timely cargo movement.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit accurate export declarations through ASYCUDA World.
  • Review and verify export documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, export permits, certificates of origin, and any other regulatory documents.
  • Ensure accurate HS code classification, customs valuation, and product descriptions.
  • Coordinate with URA customs officials, clearing agents, freight forwarders, shipping lines, and transporters to facilitate smooth export processes.
  • Follow up on approvals, release orders, and any required export authorizations.
  • Monitor loading, sealing, and dispatch of cargo to ensure alignment with declared information.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all export-related documents for compliance and audit purposes.
  • Stay informed about updates in export regulations and customs procedures in Uganda and international markets.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve documentation or customs issues that could cause clearance delays.
  • Prepare and share weekly export status reports with management.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:




  • Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Training or certification in customs clearance procedures (e.g., ASYCUDA World, Clearing & Forwarding) is an added advantage.
  • 1–2 years of experience in export documentation, customs clearance, or a similar role within Uganda.

Skills and Competencies

  • Good understanding of URA customs laws, export processes, and international trade requirements.
  • Proficiency in using ASYCUDA World.
  • Strong attention to detail and high accuracy in documentation.
  • Excellent coordination and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight export deadlines.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • High levels of integrity and professionalism.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Accuracy of export declarations.
  • Adherence to URA and international export regulations.
  • Timeliness of export clearance and dispatch.
  • Reduction in errors, penalties, or shipment delays.
  • Effectiveness in coordination with customs and logistics partners.
