Job Summary: DRC Uganda is currently looking for highly qualified and motivated individuals to join our dynamic team as Community-Based Facilitators.
The role is conditional upon funding being secured for the project.
The overall purpose of the role: The Community Based Facilitator will support day to day field implementation of Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project activities in refugee settlements. The role focuses on mobilizing beneficiaries, supporting Farmer Field Schools, providing follow up coaching, collecting field data, and assisting technical officers to deliver climate smart agriculture, sustainable land management, livestock, nutrition and market systems activities. The facilitator serves as the primary link between farmer groups and the project team, ensuring consistent engagement, accurate reporting, and timely delivery of support to targeted households.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
- Mobilise beneficiaries for trainings, demonstrations, input distribution and other project activities.
- Support the rollout of Farmer Field Schools and Farmer Institutional Development sessions using approved training materials.
- Provide routine follow up visits to farmer groups and individual households to reinforce climate smart crop, livestock and land management practices.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining demonstration plots for crops, livestock units and beneficial insect enterprises.
- Support data collection using project approved tools, including attendance sheets, adoption tracking, input redemption forms and geo referenced photos.
- Assist in preparing beneficiaries for e-voucher input distribution and coordinate with agro-dealers and settlement structures.
- Support implementation of nutrition education sessions, kitchen garden activities and cooking demonstrations as guided by technical officers.
- Facilitate community level grievance reporting and direct cases to the grievance redress structure.
- Promote inclusion and participation of women, youth, older persons and persons with disabilities in project activities.
- Support environmental awareness, Sustainable Land Management (SLM) practices, and community mobilisation for soil and water conservation activities.
- Participate in joint supervision visits, review meetings and learning sessions with technical staff and district authorities.
- Report field challenges promptly and provide feedback from farmer groups to technical officers.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have a minimum of 3 years of experience in community mobilization, extension support or related field work. Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required
- Experience working in refugee settlements or rural community development programmes.
- Basic knowledge of agriculture, livestock, or sustainable land management practices.
- Experience supporting Farmer Field School activities, group mobilisation or adult learning sessions.
- Ability to collect data accurately using paper based or digital tools.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse communities.
- Understanding of safeguarding, inclusion and conflict sensitive approaches.
- Fluency in written & Spoken English and at least one local language spoken in the settlement (such as Swahili, Acholi/Luo, Kinyabwisha, Arabic, Lingala, Madi or French).
Desirable
- Additional training in agriculture, community development, participatory extension or related fields is an added advantage.
