Mbarara University of Science & Technology (MUST), commonly known as Mbarara University, is a public university in Uganda. Mbarara University commenced student intake and instruction in 1989. It is one of the eight public universities and degree-awarding institutions in the country. MUST is accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education.
Job Summary: To support the provision of effective and confidential counselling services to students and members of staff.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Providing counselling and guidance to students and staff on demand.
- Monitoring the progress of staff and students who have undergone counselling and guidance.
- Assisting in compiling and maintaining a database of useful information on guidance and counselling and makes it available to clients.
- Establishing and maintaining close working links with academic and administrative organs of the University that offer welfare and psychological support services
- Liaising with other entities engaged in counselling and guidance in building a pool of Counsellors and support for better services helping clients.
- Participating in sensitization workshops or seminars for staff and students on matters relating to counselling and guidance.
- Referring students and staff to other support services and agencies as appropriate.
- Performing any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- An honours Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counselling and Guidance, Counselling Psychology, Social Work and Social Administration or related discipline from a recognized university.
- Membership of a Counselling Professional body shall be an added advantage.
- Should have experience in counselling youths and other young people.
- Should have excellent communication and listening skills.
- Should have a positive attitude towards people.
- Should have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to people from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds of six (6) months probationary period.
- Should have demonstrable attributes of sincerity, integrity, confidentiality and empathy.
- Must not be above 30 years of age at the time of application.
