Job Summary: Malaria Consortium is recruiting for a Technical Advisor – Vaccines to join our team in Kampala. The Technical Advisor – Vaccines will support the development and implementation of key vaccine-related programmes developed to support the EPI and malaria programmes in Uganda. The role will support in the coordination of the malaria vaccine introduction preparatory activities. Other potential areas of engagement could include: zero-dose children identification, future vaccine introductions, community engagement for EPI services, etc.
The Technical Advisor- Vaccines will work full time on the vaccine programme supporting the Ministry of Health directly with the Uganda Expanded Programme for Immunisation (UNEPI) and as necessary the Malaria Control Division, in the malaria vaccine implementation planning, which may include activities such as considerations around seasonality, community engagement and case management, and training of health workers.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The successful candidate will have:
- Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, or a related field.
- Specialized training and/or experience in vaccination programmes
- Proven experience working in public health, ideally with a focus on malaria prevention.
- Prior experience in providing strategic support to government health programmes or international health organizations.
- Prior experience of working with EPI and malaria programs in Uganda or other countries with similar context.
- In-depth knowledge of immunisation programmes, particularly Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) systems.
- Strong understanding of malaria epidemiology, seasonality, and prevention strategies.
- Familiarity with national and international guidelines related to immunisation and malaria control.
- Demonstrated ability to engage in collaborative strategic planning with government health officials and other stakeholders.
- Experience in developing clear roadmaps and action plans for the utilization of technical assistance.
- Capacity to absorb and evaluate complex information in order to advise others
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, influencing and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively, collaboratively, and in a mutually supportive manner as part of a team and to take the initiative in solving problems and in project-based activities
- Awareness of ethical and regulatory frameworks governing research
- Excellent computing and IT skills, including web technologies, MS Office and relevant data analysis software
