About Organisation:
Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health, established by the Uganda Cancer Institute Act, 2016. The Act mandates the Institute to manage and coordinate cancer care and cancer-related conditions across the country. UCI’s core functions include cancer treatment, prevention, research, and training in fields such as Oncology, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Radiotherapy, Surgery, Imaging and Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and other related specialties.
Job Summary: To participate in the implementation and monitoring of guidelines and standards on Palliative Care Services
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive and episodic assessments of patients and families across various settings (inpatient, outpatient, home),
- spearhead the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of palliative care services for cancer patients
- Provide evidence-based management of complex symptoms such as pain, nausea, and anxiety to advance individualized care plans.
- Mentor train and coach nursing staff and interns
- Enforce ethical professional conduct in the provision of palliative care services
- Manage performance of palliative care nursing staff
- Conduct and utilize evidence-based research to improve palliative care practices
- Account for supplies and drugs
- Supervise palliative care staff placed under his/her responsibilities
- Network with Palliative care stakeholders
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Palliative Care or its equivalent from a recognized University.
- A Diploma in Nursing from a recognized Institution Registration with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council and hold a valid practicing license.
- Key competencies required for the post: The incumbent should be; Results Oriented, teambuilding and Leadership, Ethics and Integrity, Concern for quality Standards, good communication, Counselling and Interpersonal skills; Accountability
