About Organisation:
Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health, established by the Uganda Cancer Institute Act, 2016. The Act mandates the Institute to manage and coordinate cancer care and cancer-related conditions across the country. UCI’s core functions include cancer treatment, prevention, research, and training in fields such as Oncology, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Radiotherapy, Surgery, Imaging and Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and other related specialties.
Job Summary: To plan together with the nuclear medicine physician and the radiation protection officer (RPO), the facilities for nuclear medicine practice.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible to Senior Nuclear Medicine Physicist for performing the following duties: –
- Prepare performance specifications for equipment with regard to radiation protection;
- Participate in the continuing review of the nuclear medicine practice’s resources (including budget, equipment and staffing), operations, policies and procedures;
- Carry out acceptance testing and commissioning of equipment;
- Design, implement and supervise QA procedures;
- Supervise equipment maintenance;
- Be responsible for calibration of equipment and dosimeters;
- Perform patient dose assessment; Participate in optimization of imaging protocols;
- Participate in the investigation and evaluation of incidents and accidents;
- Contribute to the radiation protection training programme.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Must have a Master’s degree in Medical Physics from a recognized institution;
- Clinical training in Medical Physics of at least one year at an accredited institution is an added advantage;
- Must have enrolled in a residency program or a fellowship program in a nuclear medicine institution;
- Has been granted Certification in the specific subfield(s) of Medical Physics by an appropriate National Certifying body;
- Must be registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council.
