About Organisation:
Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health, established by the Uganda Cancer Institute Act, 2016. The Act mandates the Institute to manage and coordinate cancer care and cancer-related conditions across the country. UCI’s core functions include cancer treatment, prevention, research, and training in fields such as Oncology, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Radiotherapy, Surgery, Imaging and Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and other related specialties.
Job Summary: To support the Institute management in providing social and welfare services to patients and staff of the Institute.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible to Senior Medical Social Worker for performing the following duties: –
- Implementing social work activities in the Institute.
- Interviewing patients and relatives with social needs through organised and documented psychosocial assessments.
- Offering psycho-social support, social care and emotional therapy to patients.
- Carrying out home and follow-up visits to patients.
- Participate in data collection on psychosocial interventions at the Institute.
- Participate in training and education activities on psychosocial support.
- Participate in research activities.
- Reports compiled and submitted.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Must hold an Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and Social Administration (SWASA)
- Key competencies required for the post: The incumbent should have key competences in: Planning, organizing and coordinating; Information Communication Technology (ICT); Teamwork; Communicating effectively; Concern for quality and standards; Results-oriented and Networking; Report writing skills; Research; Counselling Skills; Customer focused with ability to decipher customer expectations.
