Job Title: Laboratory Technician
Organisation: Agro Processing Plant
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct dry matter (DM) testing of fruit samples per variety as per approved standard.
- Carry out proper fruit sampling to obtain representative results.
- Record and analyze DM data to determine maturity levels and suitability for processing.
- Accurately enter all DM and fruit sampling data into the HEXIMAS software.
- Communicate DM test results promptly to the Quality control Manager.
- Escalate non-conformities immediately to the Quality control Manager.
- Verify records of processing parameters for traceability and compliance.
- Collect representative oil samples during processing, filtration, and dispatch.
- Conduct basic analysis (e.g., FFA, moisture, impurities, and sensory checks).
- Submit samples for external lab testing when required and document results.
- Inspect and verify oil quality before dispatch against product specifications.
- Support corrective and preventive action plans (CAPA) in case of non-conformities.
- Participate in internal audits and external inspections by regulatory or certification bodies.
- Assist in maintenance of supplies and equipment inventories; communicate supplies and equipment need to the Quality Manager for purchase, when need arises.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Laboratory Sciences, Chemistry, Food Science and Technology or any other related field from a recognized university.
- At least 3+ years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified above
- Computer skills, including Word, Excel, and any ERP
- Key Requirements:
- Trained in Good Laboratory Practices, Method verification/Validation and Measurement Uncertainties.
- Ability to pursue high standards of excellence in line with agreed policies and procedures.
- Strong problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
