Established 30 years ago as Biyinzika, BPIL has grown from small beginnings to a company with over 9?5 employees stationed in over 9 production sites. BPIL produces and distributes quality day-old chicks and HACCP certified animal feed through over 40 branches within Uganda and the East African region. BPIL also produces chicken meat products under the Pearl Chicken brand retailed directly through our 30 Pearl chicken shops. Pearl also supplies leading wholesale, retail and food service customers with quality Ugandan National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) certified products.

 

Job Summary: The purpose of the role is to ensure efficient, accurate, and timely management of dressed chicken distribution operations at the Kampala Distribution Centre — including cold-room stock handling, dispatch coordination, and product integrity — while maintaining strict cold-chain compliance and high service standards to support customer satisfaction and sales growth.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Distribution Operations

  • Oversee daily dispatch of dressed chicken to depots, shops, and contract customers.
  • Ensure all trucks load and depart by 7:00 AM as per dispatch schedule.
  • Coordinate the order make-up process, ensuring products match invoices and customer requirements.
  • Supervise cold-room loading and unloading, maintaining correct temperatures (-18°C to 0°C).
  • Ensure vehicle hygiene, crate management, and product handling meet company and food safety standards.

Stock Control

  • Supervise daily and weekly stock counts and reconcile physical stock against ERP (Business Central/NavOne).
  • Manage product rotation (FIFO) to minimize drip loss and expiries.
  • Work with the Stock Controller and Quality Officer to resolve variances immediately.
  • Monitor and report on daily stock movements, drip loss, and returns.

Team Management

  • Lead the dispatch officers, loaders, and cold-room handlers to achieve efficiency and discipline.
  • Enforce timekeeping, PPE use, and cold-room safety procedures.
  • Conduct daily briefings and shift handovers.
  • Identify training needs for staff and ensure skill development in handling and hygiene.

Cold Chain & Quality Compliance

  • Ensure all operations meet cold-chain and food safety standards (HACCP/ISO).
  • Monitor cold-room and refer truck temperature logs daily.
  • Ensure regular cleaning, fumigation, and sanitation schedules are implemented.
  • Liaise with Quality Assurance on product quality and corrective actions.

Reporting & Coordination

  • Prepare and submit daily reports on dispatch, stock variance, drip loss, and vehicle performance.
  • Track and report Order Fulfillment (OF) and On-Time Delivery (OD) metrics.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Customer Service, and Finance to ensure orders, invoices, and credits align.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:




  • Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or Operations.

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in cold-chain distribution (preferably poultry, meat, or FMCG).
  • Proficient in ERP systems (Business Central, NavOne) and MS Excel.
  • Strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of cold storage operations, hygiene, and food safety standards.
  • Ability to lead early-morning and weekend shifts.
  • High integrity and accountability.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Hands-on leadership style.
