About Organisation:
Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health, established by the Uganda Cancer Institute Act, 2016. The Act mandates the Institute to manage and coordinate cancer care and cancer-related conditions across the country. UCI’s core functions include cancer treatment, prevention, research, and training in fields such as Oncology, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Radiotherapy, Surgery, Imaging and Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and other related specialties.
Job Summary: To implement health education and promotion programs in the Institute.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible to Senior Health Educator for performing the following duties: –
- Implement laws and policies relating to the production and distribution of cancer health education and promotion materials for communities, institutions, and workplaces;
- Development, implementation, and evaluation of client cancer education programs by conducting needs assessments in relations to communities, institutions of learning and workplaces, and Hospitals.
- Development of cancer health education and promotion interventions and use of effective communication channels, mechanisms and strategies for communities, institutions of learning, workplaces, and Hospital.
- Select, adapt, and individualize cancer patient education information for the general public by evaluating available brochures, printed materials, video tapes, and external resources in light of the age, culture, religious practices and language.
- Contribute to the assessment of existing cancer health education and promotion interventions for communities, institutions of learning and workplaces, and hospital.
- Generate ideas and approaches to solve public health challenges through innovative cancer education and promotion interventions apt for the settings being applied to.
- Identify future cancer health education requirements in consultation with stakeholders regarding emerging cancer education needs and identify community and other resources.
- Contribute to the Production of Departmental workplans and monitor their performance;
- Participating in research activities; and Enforcing adherence to the Code of Ethics.
- Compiling and submit reports on Health Education.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- An Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Health Education and Promotion from a recognized University
- Must have at least three (3) years relevant working experience in health field
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Key competencies required for the post: The incumbent should have key competences in: Planning, organizing and coordinating; Change Management; Coaching and mentoring; Effective communication; Knowledge management; Ethics and Integrity; Assertiveness; Teamwork and Time Management; Report writing skills; Research; ICT; Customer focused with ability to decipher customer expectations.
