Job Summary: The Head of Sales will lead the overall sales function for the phone financing business in Uganda. This role is responsible for designing and executing sales strategies, managing field teams, expanding dealer networks, and driving growth in smartphone financing. The ideal candidate must have strong hands-on experience in device financing with a major focus on phone/smartphone financing models.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Sales Strategy & Execution
- Develop and implement a nationwide sales strategy for phone financing products.
- Set and achieve monthly and annual sales targets across regions.
- Identify new market opportunities and trends in Uganda’s smartphone financing space.
Team Leadership
- Manage and mentor regional managers, field supervisors, and sales agents.
- Establish performance KPIs and ensure consistent monitoring and reporting.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, and continuous training of the sales team.
Dealer Network Development
- Build and maintain strong relationships with mobile phone dealers, distributors, retail shops, and mobile money agents.
- Negotiate commercial terms and ensure proper product placement.
- Oversee dealer onboarding, performance tracking, and compliance with financing procedures.
Portfolio Quality & Credit Management
- Collaborate with credit and risk teams to ensure healthy repayment rates.
- Implement controls to minimize fraud, defaults, and device misuse.
- Monitor customer KYC, documentation accuracy, and credit assessment quality.
Operational Coordination
- Work closely with supply chain and procurement teams to ensure stock availability.
- Coordinate marketing, promotions, and field activations to support sales campaigns.
- Ensure efficient communication between sales teams and head office departments.
Reporting & Analytics
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly sales performance reports.
- Analyze field data to guide decision-making and improve sales efficiency.
- Forecast market demand and support budgeting and planning.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Sales, Business Administration, Marketing, or related field.
- MBA or related postgraduate qualification is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 5–8 years’ experience in sales leadership roles.
- Mandatory experience in device financing, specifically phone or smartphone financing.
- Prior experience working with companies like M-KOPA, Watu Simu, Jibu Phone Financing, or similar is highly preferred.
- Proven ability to manage large field sales teams and multi-region operations.
- Strong background in dealer and distribution management.
Skills & Competencies
- Deep understanding of Uganda’s phone financing market, customer behavior, and competition.
- Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Good knowledge of credit processes and portfolio risk management.
- Excellent data analysis and reporting capabilities.
- High level of integrity and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
