Job Summary: The Head of Products is accountable for leading the thought process and coordinating cross functional efforts for innovating and developing new products that are in line with HFB’s business strategy and marketing positioning.

n coordination with relevant departments, he/she will be responsible for managing the strategic and tactical aspects of the existing product portfolio including monitoring the risks to the products and reporting on product performance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the thought process and coordinate efforts to develop products that are in line with HFB’s business strategy and market positioning.
  • Work with business segment heads to identify and define target market segments, market requirements, key business strategies and the competitive environment for HFB’s niche portfolio.
  • Manage the Bank’s product development cycle through chairing the Products Innovation Committee (PIC), recommending and seeking approval from Management Assets & Liabilities Committee (MALCO) and Board Assets & Liabilities Committee (BALCO) for all new, reviewed and recalled bank products.
  • Monitor market trends and information (acquisitions, pricing changes and new products and features) to identify potential areas for the development of new products, and the restructuring of existing products.
  • Lead and coordinate efforts for market and product research either through internal or external resources and aid the thought processes for internal product review, improvement and innovation.
  • Champion new and modified business products from concept to implementation across all lines of business for the target niche.
  • Responsible for monitoring strategic aspects of existing product portfolio including monitoring product performance, continuous competitor analysis and recommending appropriate actions, strategies and tactics to sustain product performance.
  • Work with the relevant business segments and Marketing and Communications teams to prepare and execute local product launches and report on expectations of market size, market uptake, market share and expected budgeted sales.
  • Propose practical solutions based on research and background knowledge of the latest developments in the banking industry and other micro and macroeconomic drivers.
  • Develop mechanisms and tools for continuously assessing customer needs and requirements for defined segments and lead the thought processes and strategies for responding to the customer needs in a proactive manner.
  • Contribute to the formulation, implementation and review of the Bank’s Strategy.
  • Train and develop a competent team of Segment Product Managers and manage their day-to-day job performance.

Financial Responsibility

  • Responsible for product research & product development budget

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:




  • A Business Degree in Banking, Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, Statistics, management or any relevant field.
  • Relevant practical training in banking
  • Relevant practical training in research or product development

Skills & Experience

  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in a Bank setting, of which 4 must be in a Sales, Marketing or Product Development function.
  • This position requires a highly self-directed individual with independent judgment
  • Must have critical thinking, analytical, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts and practices, and procedures within fields of product research and development.
  • Must have an in-depth understanding of banking product features, pricing, benefits, positioning, design and promotions as well as lateral understanding of banking industry value drivers and trends.

  • Must be a person of impeccable integrity
