The acquisitions resulted in Old Mutual Kenya UAP Holdings and Faulu Microfinance Bank, forming one of the largest financial services groups with a growing footprint in East and Central Africa. UAP and Old Mutual have been major players in the financial services market in East Africa for decades. The two entities have vast experience in Insurance, Investment, Asset Management and Banking, and are passionate about helping our customers achieve their financial goals.

 

Job Summary: Responsible for the overall strategic and operations direction of the medical insurance business to ensure the business aligns with and meets the company’s strategic objectives. Further, the other critical element of this role is management of the unique interplay between demand and supply of health services in the insurance system with an aim to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction on one hand and sustainable/profitable business retention on the other.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with the Managing Director and the executive team develop robust strategy for the medical business that aligns with the overall company vision, mission, values and strategic direction.
  • Execute the medical business strategy including business development, production innovation, customer experience and staff performance management and development.
  • Ensure and effective risk management of the medical business to achieve the business objectives. This will also include continuous review and improvement of the medical business processes and systems.
  • Medical business claims management – ensure all claims are properly vetted and efficiently processed and paid.
  • Cost reduction including claims, acquisition and administration costs.
  • Internal capabilities for sustainable change, including advanced analytics and business process improvement.
  • Ensure excellent customer experience by ensuring smooth and efficient access to services from service providers and prompt interface with clients.
  • Manage service providers to ensure UAPOM customers receive efficient and effective access to satisfied and motivated service providers. In particular ensure that service provider accounts are properly maintained and promptly reconciled to enable efficient processing and payment of service provider payments.
  • Mentor and guide medical business staff to ensure the deliver the UAPOM brand promise and culture while achieving self-development.
  • Regularly report the performance of the medical business to the managing director and the management team in accordance with applicable structures and ensure medical business is fully aligned with the rest of the company by building effective teamwork within the department and with other departments.
  • Innovative/disruptive idea development and implementation e.g. integrated health care delivery and growth of Health Business.
  • Drive an innovation culture within the health business – Innovation management framework, document innovation policy /collaboration/ adoption/cross functions & business etc.
  • Lead the innovation process to generate ideas and develop viable innovation projects.
  • Incubate early-stage initiatives that have the potential to become long-term revenue opportunities
  • Monitor and report on innovation initiatives and provide support/oversight in conjunction with the Managing Director
  • Identifies and develops strategic partnerships for implementation of innovative ideas.
  • Accountable for data assets and resources from a strategic perspective. This includes co-ownership, accountability and responsibility of data management and data delivery plan with your respective business unit MD.
  • ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING (AML) EXPECTATION
  • The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring adherence to, implementation of, and adoption of Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Sanctions-related policies, procedures, and process requirements within Old Mutual and its subsidiaries. This includes execution of customer due diligence processes, ensuring compliance with Know-Your-Customer (KYC) standards, conducting ongoing and enhanced due diligence, and maintaining data quality. Additionally, the role involves identifying and monitoring potential AML, Sanctions, or Compliance breaches and unusual activities, and escalating these concerns to the Risk and Compliance Office for further action.
  • Any other duties as allocated by the managing director.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:




  • Degree in Health Systems, Business Management or Operations Management. MBA is an added advantage
  • Professional qualification in Insurance (ACII or FLMI or AIIK)
  • Experience: 5 years post qualification experience, 5 years in Senior Management, 8+ years in Insurance Operations and Handling Insurance Health Business.
