Job Summary: Ezeemoney is rethinking how mobile money agent networks operate. By digitizing agent network management, we empower mobile money agents and their Managers to better serve low-income, last mile, and marginalized communities. Our platform leverages the power of automation and machine learning to address the biggest challenges in the agent model, driving efficiency across the entire digital financial services ecosystem We are seeking a Finance leader who can grow with the business from seed stage through growth stage (and beyond). This individual will be responsible for overseeing and directing the organization’s financial activities and ensuring accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency in financial transactions, reporting, and management. This role is critical in ensuring statutory and regulatory compliance, delivering timely financial reports, and supporting strategic planning and decision-making.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic leadership:
- Financial strategy and roadmap ownership (shared with CEO) and financial regulatory liaison
- Support cross-departmental business strategy and decision-making through financial insights, analysis, and collaboration with cross-functional teams
- Provide financial forecasts, business modeling, and strategic cost analyses.
- Support commercial, legal, and operations teams with finance input.
- Participate in strategic planning sessions and budgeting cycles.
- Contribute to board-level presentations.
- Ongoing decision-making as part of senior management team Financial Oversight & Reporting: Ensure timely, accurate, and regulatory-compliant financial reports that provide a clear picture of the company’s financial health.
- Review and revamp internal controls for financial reporting and management
- Supervise day-to-day financial postings and entries into QuickBooks.
- Oversee daily cashflow position and financial commitments.
- Review and approve financial transactions and reconciliations.
- Monitor budget performance against spend
Monthly/Quarterly responsibilities
- Prepare and submit monthly management accounts and performance reports.
- Prepare quarterly Bank of Uganda (BOU) returns.
- Lead the preparation of quarterly board finance packs.
- Support external audits and ensure readiness of financial statements.
Payroll Management & Tax Compliance
- Ensure accurate, timely payroll execution and full compliance with statutory tax obligations
- Co-ordinate corrective tax filings and audits as well as with external auditors and regulatory authorities like URA
- Review and authorize payroll computations and statutory deductions.
- File PAYE, NSSF, WHT, and other applicable returns.
- Prepare monthly tax payment schedules and ensure remittance.
- Ensure timely submission of quarterly and annual tax returns.
- Liaise with tax authorities to resolve queries and lead compliance audits.
Revenue & Bank Reconciliation
- Ensure accurate revenue tracking, completeness of income data, and reconciliation of all financial transactions across bank and revenue records
- Oversee reconciliation of customer transactions and deposits
- Conduct and review full bank account reconciliations on a monthly basis
- Lead comprehensive revenue reconciliation between operational data and finance systems (working alongside data team) Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Ensure prompt and accurate payment to suppliers and efficient invoicing and collection processes for customers
Daily/Weekly responsibilities
- Review and authorize supplier payment requests.
- Supervise invoice generation through QuickBooks and EFRIS
- Track payment cycles, outstanding supplier dues, and receivables.
- Provide forecasts for cash outflows and inflows
- Report on aged payables and receivables
Team Management & Capacity Building
- Build and lead a high-performing finance team through continuous development, structured roles, and adherence to financial best practices
- Conduct check-ins with team members and assign responsibilities.
- Provide coaching and real-time feedback on tasks.
- Identify training needs and coordinate internal or external training sessions
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or another similar field
- Professional accounting qualification — e.g. ACCA, CPA, CA, or CIMA.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in finance, with at least 1 year in a leadership role.
- Proven experience in financial strategy, planning, and analysis (FP&A).
- Strong understanding of IFRS and local tax regulations.
- Experience working with auditors, investors, and regulators.
- Prior experience in technology, financial services, or a high-growth startup.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Odoo) and financial reporting tools.
