About Organisation:
Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health, established by the Uganda Cancer Institute Act, 2016. The Act mandates the Institute to manage and coordinate cancer care and cancer-related conditions across the country. UCI’s core functions include cancer treatment, prevention, research, and training in fields such as Oncology, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Radiotherapy, Surgery, Imaging and Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and other related specialties.
Job Summary: To support in providing counselling services to patients of the Institute and / or its branches.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible to Senior Counsellor for performing the following duties: –
- Implementing counselling activities in the hospital.
- Interviewing and counselling patients and relatives with social needs.
- Offering psycho-social support, social care and emotional therapy to patients.
- Carrying out home and follow-up visits to patients.
- Participate in research activities, M&E, reporting
- Adhere to the Professional Code of Conduct and Ethics.
- Manage and account for allocated resources.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Must have a Bachelor’s Degree (Hons) in either Community Psychology, Counselling and Guidance, Social Work and Social Administration, or the equivalent from a recognized University
- A Certificate in Counselling is highly desirable.
- At least 2 years of proven work experience in the provision of counselling services in the health sector or reputable Organization
- Key competencies required for the post: The incumbent should have key competences in: Planning, organizing and coordinating; Information Communication Technology (ICT); Teamwork; Communicating effectively; Concern for quality and standards; Excellent time management skills; Good command of English and must be able to speak a minimum of two local languages (Language from the North, East, Central, West Nile and Western Region); Good problem solving skills; Ability to work for long and unconventional hours/days; Results-oriented and
- Networking; Report writing; Research and Customer focused with ability to decipher customer expectations.
