About Organisation:
Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health, established by the Uganda Cancer Institute Act, 2016. The Act mandates the Institute to manage and coordinate cancer care and cancer-related conditions across the country. UCI’s core functions include cancer treatment, prevention, research, and training in fields such as Oncology, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Radiotherapy, Surgery, Imaging and Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and other related specialties.
Job Summary: To be responsible for collecting, capturing, and updating data about our patients’ histories, symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, and health statuses.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible to Senior Cancer Registrar for performing the following duties: –
- Compiling and maintaining records of institute patients treated for cancer to provide data for health care workers and research studies.
- Reviewing hospital records to identify and compile patient data for use in cancer management programs in order to comply with government regulations.
- Reviewing patient’s medical records, abstracts and codes information, such as demographic characteristics, history and extent of disease, diagnostic procedures and treatment, and enters data to database.
- Preparing statistical/narrative reports and graphic presentations of tumor registry data for use by the Institute staff, researchers, and other users of registry data
- Contacting discharged patients and their families for follow-up information.
- Complying with government regulations and medical ethics.
- Coordinating with other registries in and out of the country.
- Any other duties as may be assigned
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in health information, health sciences, or related field from a recognized University or Institution.
- Knowledge of cancer registry standards and practices.
- Must be proficient in health information technology, statistics and database management.
- Understanding of basic medical terminology.
- Key competencies required for the post: Planning, organizing and coordinating; Information Communication Technology; Report writing, Effective Communication; Ethics and Integrity; Concern for quality standard; Public relations and customer care and Teamwork; Report writing skills; Research; Customer focused with ability to decipher customer expectations.
