About Organisation:
Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health, established by the Uganda Cancer Institute Act, 2016. The Act mandates the Institute to manage and coordinate cancer care and cancer-related conditions across the country. UCI’s core functions include cancer treatment, prevention, research, and training in fields such as Oncology, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Radiotherapy, Surgery, Imaging and Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and other related specialties.
Job Summary: To manage the delivery of effective and efficient oncology surgical services in the Institute.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible to Consultant (Surgery) for performing the following duties: –
- Planning and budgeting for oncology Surgical programs
- Diagnosing, treating and referring patients.
- Monitoring and evaluation of programs
- Developing and implementing continuous professional development programs.
- Supervising, coaching, mentoring and appraising staff.
- Training and mentoring staff and students.
- Initiating and carrying out research activities.
- Enforcing adherence to the Code of Conduct and Ethics.
- Accounting for the allocated resources.
- Compiling and submitting periodic reports.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Must have an MBChB from a recognized University/Institution.
- Must have a Master of Medicine Degree in Surgery.
- Must be registered with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council
- Must have a valid practicing License
- Must be willing to undergo training in Surgical Oncology
- At least six (6) years working experience, three (3) of which should have been served at Senior Medical Officer level in government or an equivalent level from a reputable organization
- Key competencies required for the post: The incumbent should have competences in: Planning, organizing and coordinating; Financial Management; Human Resource Management; Change Management- Coaching and mentoring; Effective communication; Knowledge management; Ethics and Integrity; Leadership; Team work and Time management; Report writing skills; Research; ICT; Basic life support skills; Experience providing medical services; Counselling skills; Customer focused with ability to decipher customer expectations.
