About Organisation:
Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health, established by the Uganda Cancer Institute Act, 2016. The Act mandates the Institute to manage and coordinate cancer care and cancer-related conditions across the country. UCI’s core functions include cancer treatment, prevention, research, and training in fields such as Oncology, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Radiotherapy, Surgery, Imaging and Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and other related specialties.
Job Summary: To provide effective and efficient delivery of Pathology services in the Institute.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible to Consultant (Pathology) for performing the following duties: –
- Implement policies, standards and guidelines for delivery of Clinical and Forensic Pathology Services.
- Provide capacity building and technical support to units.
- Carry out pathology services in the Institute including medical and forensic autopsy services.
- Participate in investigations of cases relating to rape, defilement, torture, child abuse, physical assault, etc. through provision of clinical forensic services.
- Audit deaths and carry out forensic post-mortems to the required standard in the Institute.
- Provide forensic services to the police and courts of law as requested; including testifying in court cases as required.
- Advise the Institute regarding establishment of the medical causes of death in unexplained cases.
- Monitor the delivery of mortuary services in the Institute to ensure that they meet the required standards.
- Participate in UCI Research and Training activities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- An MBChB Degree from a recognized University or Institution.
- A Master’s degree in Pathology or equivalent from a recognized Institution.
- Registration with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council.
- Must be willing to undergo specialist training in Onco-Pathology
