About Organisation:
Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health, established by the Uganda Cancer Institute Act, 2016. The Act mandates the Institute to manage and coordinate cancer care and cancer-related conditions across the country. UCI’s core functions include cancer treatment, prevention, research, and training in fields such as Oncology, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Radiotherapy, Surgery, Imaging and Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and other related specialties.
Job Summary: To provide specialized ophthalmology services at the hospital and its catchment area
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible to Consultant (Ophthalmology) for performing the following duties: –
- To diagnose and treat complicated ophthalmic conditions.
- To conduct specialized ophthalmic Clinics.
- To manage referral patients at the National level.
- To conduct Ward Rounds.
- To supervise, coach, mentor, appraise and train Medical Officers and other Health professionals under him/her.
- To draft standard operating procedures, clinical protocols and guidelines in ophthalmology.
- To teach Medical Students as wells as other Health Students.
- To supervise and train Intern Doctors.
- To enforce adherence to the professional code of conduct and ethics.
- To conduct research in ophthalmology.
- To conduct continuous professional development in ophthalmology at the Hospital and the Catchment area of the Hospital.
- To provide technical guidance on the specifications for procurement of equipment, drugs and other logistics required for ophthalmic surgery.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- MB.CH.B from a recognized University.
- Master of Medicine degree in Ophthalmology from a recognized University/Institution.
- Registration with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council, valid practicing licenses At least six (6) years working experience, three (3) of which should have been served at Senior Medical Officer level in government or an equivalent level from a reputable organization.
- Must be willing to undertake training in ophthalmic oncology
- Key competencies required for the post: The incumbent should have competences in: Planning, organizing and coordinating; Financial Management; Human Resource Management; Change Management; Coaching and mentoring; Effective communication; Knowledge management; Ethics and Integrity; Leadership; Team work and Time management; Report writing skills; Research; ICT; Basic life support skills; Experience providing medical services; Counselling skills; Customer focused with ability to decipher customer expectations.
