It employs over 350 permanent staff, and an additional 100-150 contract labor. Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review all prepress materials (PDFs, proofs, impositions, etc.) for grammatical, typographical, and formatting errors.
  • Cross-check digital files against original manuscripts or client-supplied copy to ensure content consistency.
  • Verify page numbers, image captions, headings, font usage, and alignment are correct across documents.
  • Check for consistency in branding, style guides, and layout formatting as per client or in-house standards.
  • Collaborate with graphic designers, typesetters, and prepress operators to resolve discrepancies before final approval.
  • Approve or markup final proofs and document any required corrections clearly and efficiently.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and production schedules.
  • Maintain records of changes and ensure all revisions are implemented accurately.

 

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Accuracy and error detection.
  • Average reading time per job.
  • Formatting accuracy rate.
  • Number of jobs proofed per week.
  • Feedback from designers on how clearly the proofreader communicates.

 




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Residency status: Preferably Ugandan National
  • Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Linguistic skills: Fluent in English (Spoken & Written)
  • Experience: 1–3 years of experience in proofreading, ideally in a print or prepress environment
  • Age: Below 30years
  • Remuneration: Salary is market competitive & negotiable

Key Skills:

  • Strong command of grammar, punctuation, and language rules.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines with strong time management.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat and prepress file formats (PDF, InDesign, etc.).
  • Understanding of print production workflows and terminology is highly desirable.
