About Organisation:
Makerere University, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, is implementing the Africa Climate Collaborative from 2025 to 2033. The Program seeks to strengthen Africa’s preparedness and response to climate change by developing a critical mass of thought leaders capable of driving the continent’s transition to green and resilient economies. The Africa Climate Collaborative Program at Makerere University will offer fully funded scholarships to outstanding young Africans at Master’s, PhD and Post-doctoral level. Additionally, the program will offer training opportunities for Youth to gain knowledge and skills in green entrepreneurship, facilitating transitions to a green economy and promoting job creation.
Job Summary: To lead all recruitment and training operations for Skilling Program at Makerere University, community engagements and industry attachments.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate selection and recruitment activities of Skilling Youth on the Program;
- Establish and coordinate partnerships to facilitate recruitment and training of the Skilling Youth;
- Lead the planning, scheduling, and operationalization of Skilling Youth training activities;
- Work with trainers, facilitators, and subject matter experts to develop curricula and training materials that are relevant, inclusive, and aligned with industry and community needs;
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Program and communities/industry participating in the Youth skilling programs;
- Coordinate and monitor the placement of Youth into meaningful industry attachments and track their performance and learning outcomes;
- Monitor, identify and report any safeguarding concerns that may arise during the Program implementation;
- Compile and analyze data related to Program activities, and prepare accurate, timely reports to support decision-making, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Master’s degree in Agricultural Extension and Education or Agribusiness or Engineering or Environmental Studies, or Development Studies or Education or Rural Development or Youth Development from a recognized institution
- An Honour’s Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Extension and Education or Agribusiness or Engineering or Environmental Studies or Development Studies or Education or Rural Development or Youth Development from a recognized institution
- Added advantage
- Postgraduate Diploma in Project Management or Monitoring and Evaluation from a recognized institution.
Experience
- A minimum of 6 years’ relevant work experience, 3 of which should have been at Senior level.
- Competencies
- Experience in coordinating recruitment and selection of youth from different social categories.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing youth-focused training and capacity-building programs.
- Experience in brokering and managing partnerships with industry, civil society, and government entities to facilitate internships, apprenticeships, or business incubation for Youth.
- Experience with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) systems and competency-based training approaches.
- Demonstrated capacity in data analysis, monitoring and evaluation, and results-based reporting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
