UGAFODE Microfinance Limited (MDI) is a registered financial institution in Uganda and is adherent to the Central Bank’s regulations and guidelines and was founded in 1994 to provide quality microfinance services.

 

Job Summary:  The Head of Credit Administration is a senior management position directly reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for overseeing the credit administration function including developing & executing credit administration strategies, portfolio management, policy development & implementation, risk monitoring across various product lines.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Credit Administration Strategy: Accountable for formulation, review and execution of UGAFODE’s credit Administration strategy based on the agreed strategic direction of the institution as well as annual operating plan.
  • Credit Analysis/assessments: Leads the credit team in ensuring that all loans are effectively and efficiently analyzed in line with credit standards and metrics to enable a qualitative loan portfolio.
  • Credit Approval: In exercise of credit control function, the incumbent assumes overall approval powers for all loans within UGAFODE and those that are escalated to the department.
  • Credit Business Growth: Leads the credit administration team in supporting asset growth through setting controls in the credit underwriting process to limit risk and enhance compliance with UGAFODE & Regulatory credit operating standards.
  • Stakeholder management: Works in collaboration with other departments namely Business and Product development, Research and marketing for enhanced product input, Business Generation for credit leads and support as well as Recovery support unit for loan recovery escalation and write-offs.
  • Process Efficiency and Improvement: Conducts regular reviews of Credit policies, process effectiveness and efficiency, and provides feedback and recommendations to UGAFODE management on a regular basis.
  • Management of credit risk. Approves and or recommends internal loan approval limits as per UGAFODE’s credit structure, ascertains overall risk i.e. ongoing stability of various business sectors against tenure of loans and market risks to the business, ensures all institution’s loans are secure and comply to all set policies and procedures.
  • Compliance: Ensures compliance with internal credit policies and Central Bank guidelines and regulations on prudential norms failure of which UGAFODE can incur losses as a result of penalties arising thereof.
  • Reporting on credit strategy: Prepares, reviews and submits portfolio and other financial analysis reports on Credit growth and other trends to key internal and external stakeholders including- Management, Board and Central Bank duly updated.
  • Budget/Cost Management: Oversees the Credit function Budget and ensure cost saving, value for money, enforcement of budgetary controls and accountability for expenditure in line with UGAFODE set standards and annual operating plans.
  • Team Leadership: Takes full responsibility for performance management of all direct reports, focusing on all aspects of sound people management.

 




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of Bachelors in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics or any other business-related subject.
  • Credit Certification and ACIB or similar professional qualification is desirable.
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in credit management with at least 5 years in middle management
  • A good understanding of regulations governing financial institutions on lending.
  • A self-starter who is able to work under minimum supervision.
  • Analytical with sound judgment and decision-making skills
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Strong communication, networking and stakeholder engagement skills
