Yako Bank (U) Limited was incorporated in the Republic of Uganda in 2010 and licensed as a Credit Institution by Bank of Uganda in 2020. In September 2015, Yako got its license to operate as a deposit taking institution and started operations under the name Yako Microfinance (U) Limited. It upgraded to a Credit Institution in 2020 and was licensed to operate as Yako Bank (U) Limited. Yako Bank is owned by different shareholders and has been licensed by Bank of Uganda to provide savings and lending products to different clients.
Job Summary: The Head of Compliance will provide strategic leadership in ensuring Yako Bank’s adherence to regulatory requirements, internal policies, and ethical standards. The role reports directly to the Board Risk and Compliance Committee and plays a key part in safeguarding the integrity and reputation of the Bank.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and oversee the Bank’s compliance framework and policies.
- Ensure adherence to all regulatory and statutory obligations.
- Liaise with regulators including Bank of Uganda and the Financial Intelligence Authority.
- Lead AML/CFT compliance programs and staff training.
- Conduct compliance audits, investigations, and advise Management and the Board on emerging regulatory risks.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional certification in Compliance, AML/CFT, or Risk Management (e.g., ICA, ACAMS) is an added advantage.
- At least 7 years’ experience in a financial institution, with 5 years in a senior compliance or risk management role.
- Strong knowledge of banking regulations, AML/CFT laws, and corporate governance standards.
