Thomson Foundation is a British non-profit, non-political, and independent organization dedicated to supporting free and independent journalism. With over six decades of experience, the Foundation has trained journalists in ethical standards, accurate reporting, and media sustainability across more than 100 countries. It works with media organizations, governments, civil society, and academia, particularly across Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East, to strengthen professional standards in factual and evidence-based reporting.

Job Summary: The Thomson Foundation is launching a capacity-building programme for journalists aimed at strengthening media integrity and promoting factual, responsible journalism.

The training will select 10 mid-career journalists to participate in a Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop. Participants will develop advanced skills in verification and fact- checking, as well as practical training techniques to help them share these skills within their own newsrooms and networks. Following the workshop, the trained journalists, known as Fact-Checking Ambassadors, will be supported to conduct peer-to-peer training cycles, contribute to newsroom verification protocols, and promote a stronger culture of accuracy and accountability within Ugandan media. The training will take place in Kampala, Uganda, in November 2025.

Workshop Language

English will be the primary language of the training.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:




Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Be mid-career journalists with at least five years of professional experience in
  • journalism or a related media field.
  • Demonstrate experience or strong interest in fact-checking, investigative reporting, or verification processes.
  • Show a good understanding of the challenges related to misinformation and disinformation in the media environment.
  • Have the capacity and motivation to lead training or mentoring initiatives within their newsroom or professional community.
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to promote accuracy and accountability in reporting.
  • Represent diverse regions of Uganda to ensure national reach and diversity in the Fact-Checking Ambassadors Network.
  • Be familiar with or willing to learn digital tools and platforms for fact-checking and verification (e.g. open-source intelligence tools, social media monitoring).
  • Confirm their availability to attend the full training workshop in Kampala in November 2025.

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee from Thomson Foundation and its partners, ensuring fairness and transparency. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted by mid-November 2025.
