Job Summary: Within the above context, the drivers will take responsibility of maintaining official cars, missions, daily travels with keeping logbook in line with work plans, ILO rules, regulations, policies and strategies, and in accordance with country programmes and administrative and financial procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Team Leader and the general guidance of the Director of ILO CO Dar es Salaam, the drivers will perform the following tasks:
- Ensure the provision of safe and reliable driving services. Drive the Office Director, senior level officials, project team, and other authorized personnel and visitors. Meet officials and visitors at the airport including assisting, where necessary, with protocol, visa and customs formalities.
- Collect and deliver mail, pouch, documents and other items for official purposes .
- Ensure cost-savings through proper use of vehicle and accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and documentation.
- Ensure proper day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes and water levels, car washing, etc. to always keep the vehicle clean and in good running condition.
- Ensure availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit and other MOSS-compliant equipment, and necessary spare parts in assigned vehicles.
- Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accident
- Inform the supervisor in a timely manner of (re)registration and insurance procedures for all the office vehicles.
- Keep updated of the security situation, risk and inform office for alternatives.
- Assist office staff in filing, photocopying and maintaining stores. Assist in the mailing, collection and distribution of documents and publications including to ministries and banks. Arrange to pay office telephone and other bills. Perform data entry duties.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor and Director.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Secondary education, valid driver’s license, knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repairs.
Experience
- At least three years’ work experience as a driver with a safe driving record. Preference will be given to the candidate who has experience of working with technical cooperation projects, UN organizations and Donors.
Languages
- Excellent knowledge of English.
Competencies
- Excellent knowledge of local driving rules and regulations
- Good knowledge of local roads and conditions
- Good knowledge of chauffeur protocol and courtesies.
- Good knowledge of security issues
- Proven ability to keep accurate records of the use of vehicle
- Skills in minor vehicle repair
- Ability to use a GPS data recorder, report position, and operate all applicable UHF/VHF and other two-way communication devices
- Knowledge of general office procedures and ability to use standard office equipment.
- Basic computer skills to record information in IT systems
- Demonstrate polite, courteous and cooperative behaviour.
- Demonstrate high level of collegiality and cooperation, good team worker.
- Good knowledge of rules and procedures on vehicle management including maintenance of official vehicles and knowledge of mechanics and maintenance and repair of vehicles
- Defensive driving skills and ensuring the safety of passengers.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to demonstrate gender-sensitive and non-discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.
