Job Summary: Buildnet now seeks to recruit a passionate, skilled and innovative Legal and Compliance Officer.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Legal Counsel: Provide expert legal advice on all company activities, including land acquisition, construction contracts, joint ventures, and property sales and management.
- Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate various legal documents, such as construction contracts, sale agreements, lease agreements, and agreements with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Compliance Oversight: Develop, implement, and manage a robust compliance framework that aligns with Ugandan legal requirements.
- Regulatory Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact with government bodies and regulatory agencies in Uganda. Stay informed about changes in laws affecting the real estate and construction industries and advise management accordingly.
- Risk Management: Conduct legal and compliance risk assessments for all projects, from land procurement to project completion. Identify potential legal risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Due Diligence: Conduct thorough legal due diligence on all property acquisitions to ensure clean titles, proper land use permits, and compliance with all planning and zoning regulations.
- Dispute Resolution: Manage and provide support in any legal disputes or litigation.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized University and all courts subordinate thereof.
- Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre (LDC), Kampala.
- Admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience as a legal and compliance professional, with a strong focus on the real estate or construction industry in Uganda.
- In-depth knowledge of Ugandan land laws, environmental regulations, and construction-related statutes.
- Exceptional analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
