Job Summary: To provide strategic leadership in investment management, ensuring optimal portfolio performance, compliance with regulatory frameworks, and delivery of superior returns aligned with Britam’s business objectives and clients’ expectations. The role oversees investment strategy formulation, asset allocation, portfolio construction, risk management, and client relationship management.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Investment Strategy and Portfolio Management

  • Develop, review, and implement investment strategies aligned with Britam Asset Managers’ goals and clients’ mandates.
  • Lead asset allocation decisions across equities, fixed income, alternatives, and other asset classes.
  • Monitor and evaluate portfolio performance to ensure competitive risk-adjusted returns.
  • Recommend tactical investment decisions in response to market dynamics, macroeconomic conditions, and client needs.

Research and Market Analysis

  • Conduct and oversee in-depth research on local, regional, and global markets, economic trends, and industry developments.
  • Develop investment insights, forecasts, and reports to guide decision-making.
  • Build and maintain a database of market intelligence, investment opportunities, and competitor strategies.

Risk Management and Compliance

  • Ensure investment portfolios comply with regulatory requirements set by BAM Uganda, the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) Uganda, Bank of Uganda, and other relevant regulators.
  • Implement robust risk management frameworks to monitor credit, market, liquidity, and operational risks.
  • Establish and enforce internal controls, governance standards, and ethical investment practices.

Client Relationship and Business Development

  • Engage with institutional clients, pension funds, insurance companies, high-net-worth individuals, and retail clients to understand investment objectives and tailor solutions.
  • Provide regular investment performance reports and strategic reviews to clients and stakeholders.
  • Support the business development agenda by contributing to product innovation and strengthening Britam’s reputation as a trusted asset manager.

Leadership and Team Management

  • Provide direction, mentorship, and professional development to the investment team.
  • Foster a culture of high performance, accountability, innovation, and ethical conduct within the department.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (finance, operations, risk, compliance, and IT) to ensure seamless service delivery.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with regulators, auditors, fund managers, custodians, brokers, and other stakeholders in the investment ecosystem.
  • Represent Britam Asset Managers Uganda in industry forums, policy discussions, and investor conferences.
  • Contribute thought leadership through publications, presentations, and media engagements to enhance the company’s visibility.

Reporting and Governance

  • Prepare periodic investment reports for the CEO, Institutional Clients, Board of Directors, and the Investment Committee.
  • Recommend strategic actions to optimize returns while balancing risk and liquidity.
  • Ensure timely submission of regulatory and compliance reports.
  • Delegated Authority: As per the approved Delegated Authority Matrix
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
  • Deliver on performance requirements as defined in the departments’ strategy map, balanced scorecard and Personal Scorecard.

Key Performance Measures:

  • Portfolio performance vs. benchmark returns.
  • Client retention and satisfaction levels.
  • Compliance with regulatory requirements (zero penalties/sanctions).
  • Growth in assets under management (AUM).
  • Innovation in investment products and solutions.
  • Strength of internal governance and risk frameworks.
  • Development and retention of investment talent.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:




  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Investment Management, Actuarial Science, Accounting, or related field (mandatory).
  • Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, or Business Administration (preferred).
  • Professional certifications such as CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst), or CISI will be an added advantage.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive experience in investment management, asset management, portfolio management, or related financial services.
  • At least 5 years in a senior investment/portfolio management role with proven responsibility for large, diversified portfolios.
  • Demonstrated track record of generating superior risk-adjusted returns.
  • Strong experience in equities, fixed income, alternative assets, and multi-asset class strategies.
  • Experience engaging with institutional clients (pension funds, insurance companies, high-net-worth individuals).
  • Familiarity with the Ugandan capital markets and East African investment environment, including regulatory requirements by the Capital Markets Authority (CMA), Bank of Uganda, and other relevant bodies.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong understanding of portfolio theory, asset allocation, financial modeling, and valuation techniques.
  • Deep knowledge of local, regional, and global markets, economic indicators, and investment instruments.
  • Excellent knowledge of risk management frameworks and compliance in asset management.
  • Proficiency in investment tools/software such as Bloomberg, Reuters, Excel financial modeling, or other portfolio management systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate market data into actionable insights.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Leadership and people management skills to guide a high-performing investment team.
  • High ethical standards, integrity, and sound judgment.
