Subsahara Leaf Uganda Limited is a dynamic grower and trader of premium quality tobacco Together with farmers, GTS grows high-quality tobacco and undertakes the entire value chain to produce cut-rag for sale to cigarette manufacturers. We buy 100% of locally grown tobacco leaf, supporting 14,000 small farmers in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC); in Angola we run a farm with more than 200 permanent employees and 3 times more seasonal.
Job Summary: The HR Manager, having dual reporting line to the General Manager and Group HR is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the company’s human resources by planning implementing and evaluating employee relations and HR policies, programmes, and practices to ensure adherence to HR policies / practices and recruiting superior workforce emphasize employee-oriented culture, quality continuous development and key employee retention practices and high performance. The job holder is also responsible for the administration responsibilities of the entity to ensure all administration tasks are done and services provided to the entity
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate/ handle the talent acquisition and oversee the onboarding process right from job profiling up to selection and deployment
- In charge of handing the operation of the human resource management system (HRMS) and to ensure that all employees record such as attendance working days set ups. leaves etc are up to date at all times
- Preparation of the monthly payrolls as per the employment regulations and the company policy
- To ensure that al the monthly mandatory remittances such as the National Social Security Fund (NSSF). PAYE contributions are done as per the legal datelines for all the employees
- Handle all employee workplace management processes such as welfare conflict management, grievance handing and disciplinary procedures amongst others
- Advising management on any updates and recommendations regarding the human resource policies and procedures while keeping track of al the labour laws and practices to ensure the compliance of the policies to these laws I practices
- Ensure legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource labour law requirements and liaising with various government entities on matters such as OSH environment, workplace registrations and other compliances as per the requirements
- Carry out consolidation of performance management process in collaboration with area managers to ensure completion of the processes on time
- Spearheading and formulation of effective employees training and development initiatives programs sensitizations seminars etc
- Ensure insurance provides are updated and appropriate at all times, liaison with the insurances for all matters relating to notifications & compensations, proposed adjustments or other modifications to policies as and when required.
- Ensure all administration tasks are taken care of (inclusive of public relations welfare related supplies coordination with the legal experts in cases of litigation coordination with the security agencies etc) considering business requirements
- Administer all business needs in various locations and coordinate with others to ensure services are provided on time
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The desired Candidate for the Position should possess the qualities as outlined:
- Minimum of a Bachelor s degree or equivalent in Human Resource Management Business Administration Public Administration or Social Sciences from a recognized Institution
- At least 5 years of progressive leadership and proven experience in Human Resources positions in a highly fast paced environment.
- Specialized trainings in employment labour laws, compensation, benefits, workforce planning, industrial relations, employee relations, training & development are preferred
- Excellent communication skills (written and spoken) and outstanding interpersonal relationship building, negotiations skills
- Demonstrated ability to serve as a knowledgeable resource to al levels of management and to give quick solutions as and when required ability to practice and coach organization managers in the practice of a high level of confidentiality
- Excellent knowledge of computer, internet management & operations, visa applications, flight reservations etc
- Proven ability to work under intense pressure and with the minimum level of supervision at all times
