Job Summary: The Head of Talent & Culture will report directly to the General Manager and serve as the face of managing recruitment, employee relations, training, performance management, and compliance with labor laws and company policies in Uganda. This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented Head of Talent & Culture leader with a deep understanding of excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for fostering organizational growth.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Recruitment and Onboarding
- Coordinate the full recruitment cycle, including job postings, candidate sourcing, screening, interviewing, and selection.
- Conduct onboarding programs to ensure new employees are effectively integrated into the company culture and operations.
- Maintain accurate records of recruitment activities and candidate pipelines.
Employee Relations
- Act as a point of contact for employee queries, fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
- Address employee concerns, grievances, and conflicts in a fair and timely manner.
- Promote employee engagement initiatives to enhance morale and productivity.
Performance Management
- Support the implementation of performance appraisal systems to evaluate employee performance.
- Assist in setting performance goals and providing feedback to employees.
- Collaborate with managers to identify training and development needs.
Training and Development
- Organize and facilitate training programs to enhance employee skills and career development.
- Identify learning opportunities and coordinate professional development initiatives.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs.
HR Administration and Compliance
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in compliance with company policies and Ugandan labor laws.
- Administer employee benefits, including leave management, health insurance, and other welfare programs.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, such as NSSF, PAYE, and other regulatory obligations.
- Prepare HR reports and metrics to support decision-making processes.
Policy Implementation
- Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures.
- Communicate and enforce company policies to ensure consistency and fairness.
- Stay updated on HR trends and best practices to recommend improvements to existing processes.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in human resources or a related role.
- Strong knowledge of Ugandan labor laws and HR best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with employees at all levels.
- Proficiency in HRIS (Human Resource Information Systems) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Proactive problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
