Communications Manager NGO Jobs – Show Mercy International

Job Title:  Communications Manager

Organisation: Show Mercy International

Duty Station: Kaliiti, Wakiso, Uganda

About Organisation:

Show Mercy International is a Christian organisation dedicated to transforming lives through love, compassion, and practical action. Our mission is to mobilize, inspire, and empower individuals to live a life on purpose while reaching out in love.

Job Summary:   We are looking for a born-again Christian communicator who has both the heart and the skill to capture and share stories of God’s transforming power in Uganda. This is not just a desk job— you will be in the field, meeting people, uncovering testimonies, and shaping them into stories that inspire our partners and donors around the world.

If you love storytelling, leadership, and working with a team to make an eternal impact, this could be your place.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify and develop compelling, newsworthy stories from across Show Mercy’s programs.
  • Spend time in the field—visiting programs, outreaches, and communities—to uncover stories and testimonies.
  • Direct the media team on what photos, videos, and graphics to capture for each story.
  •  Write and edit high-quality stories, updates, newsletters, and donor communications.
  •  Collaborate with both Uganda and USA teams to ensure messaging inspires and connects with partners.
  • Manage communications workflows, deadlines, and content calendars.
  • Mentor and provide feedback to the media team, helping them grow in skill and excellence.
  • Translate Ugandan context into stories that resonate with Western donors.
  • Maintain consistency of voice and message across all platforms.
  • Oversee photo and video content organization (using tools such as SmugMug), ensuring proper labeling, categorization, and accessibility for the wider team.
  • Proactively learn, study, and embody Show Mercy’s mission and values to ensure accurate and inspired storytelling.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Born-again Christian with a strong testimony and heart for ministry.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills (journalism background preferred).
  • Natural leader with the ability to direct others and manage projects.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to keep multiple projects moving.
  • Cross-cultural communication skills—able to understand Ugandan realities while communicating to Western audiences.
  • Administrative and planning abilities.
  • Experience with digital asset management tools (e.g., SmugMug, Google Drive, Dropbox).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and strong general tech-savviness.
  • Comfortable working both in-office and in the field to gather stories.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in communications, media, or related field.

How to Apply:

All suitably qualified candidates should either email [email protected] or hand-deliver their applications to our base with the following documents:
  • Application letter
  • CV
  • Academic papers
  • A recommendation letter from your pastor
  • Photography portfolio (digital or printed)
Directions to our base:
  • If in Kampala town, go to Namirembe park and board a taxi to Kakiri. Tell the conductor you will get out at “Kumi nanya” (14 in Luganda) stage. From there, take a Boda to Show Mercy at UGX 3,000.
  • If you’re along the Northern by-pass, get a taxi to Kakiri or one to Wakiso, then board another headed to Kakiri.
NB: All documents listed above are mandatory.
