Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and certified Clearing Manager to lead and oversee customs clearance operations at Entebbe International Airport. The ideal candidate will possess a valid IATA certification, extensive experience in the clearing and forwarding industry, and a strong understanding of airport cargo logistics. This role demands strategic leadership, regulatory expertise, and operational efficiency to ensure seamless cargo movement and compliance with customs protocols.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage all customs clearance activities for air cargo shipments
- Lead a team of clearing agents, ensuring high performance and accountability
- Ensure full compliance with Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) regulations and international customs laws
- Liaise with customs officials, airport authorities, freight forwarders, and clients to resolve clearance issues
- Oversee documentation processes including import/export declarations, permits, and tax assessments
- Monitor cargo movement and ensure timely clearance and delivery
- Maintain accurate records and generate reports on clearance activities and performance metrics
- Stay informed on changes in customs regulations, IATA standards, and airport security protocols
- Implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and reduce clearance delays
- Provide expert guidance on complex shipments and regulatory challenges
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field
- Minimum 7 years of experience in the clearing and forwarding industry, with at least 2 years in a managerial role
- Valid IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) is mandatory
- Strong knowledge of airport operations and customs procedures
- Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills
- Proficiency in customs clearance systems (e.g., ASYCUDA, URA portal) and Microsoft Office
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
- High level of integrity, discretion, and attention to detail
- Familiarity with East African trade regulations and airport security protocols
Preferred Attributes
- Certification in customs brokerage or freight forwarding
- Experience working with aviation logistics or airport cargo handling
- Multilingual skills are an advantage
