Job Title: Business Development Manager – Retail

CIC General Insurance (U) is a joint venture of CIC Kenya and the Co-operative movement in Uganda. The company is fully incorporated and licensed to transact General Insurance business. In addition to the General policies available for institutions, corporate, individual and all categories of entities, the Company serves all Co-operative Societies in Uganda along the Co-operative Model.
Job Summary: To identify, develop and manage business opportunities within the Retail sectors, ensuring sustainable revenue growth, client satisfaction, long-revenue growth, and long-term partnerships. The BDM will act as the key relationship link between retail clients.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Business Development & Sales
- Develop and implement overall business development strategies for retail business, aligning with the company’s broader growth objectives.
- Build a pipeline of Prospects, acquire, and onboard new retail clients.
- Negotiate terms, pricing, and service agreements to win profitable business.
- Achieve set revenue, premium, and profitability targets.
- Identify and pursue new markets and partnership opportunities.
- Develop and manage sales plans to achieve revenue and profitability targets.
- Pitch and close deals with potential clients.
- Building & developing strong strategic relationships within assigned retail market
- Drive profitable business for the company and Achieve an annual Production Targets
- Design and develop need-based products for the retail market;
- Conduct market activations and storms in strategic locations with respective retail business;
- Prepare market intelligence reports on products and services.
- Monitor retail performance and ensure achievement of set production targets.
Retail Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with Retail.
- Provide training and support to BDOs, Team Leaders and Agents on company products and services.
- Act as primary liaison between the company and retail clients, ensuring clear communication, effective collaboration and resolving queries promptly
- Provide ongoing support to retail clients regarding products, underwriting processes and claims management.
- Conduct regular visits, check -ins and feedback sessions.
- Monitor retail performance and provide regular feedback and support.
- Manage, strengthen and expand relationships with insurance retail to drive premium growth, increase markets share and ensure service excellence.
- Provide marketing and sales materials to retail
Market Research & Intelligence
- Gather feedback on retail market trends, competitor products and client need
- Provide insights to underwriting and product development teams to refine product offerings.
- Monitor industry development to ensure the company remains competitive.
- Conduct market intelligence to identify new business opportunities and trends.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure all retail business complies with insurance regulations and company policies.
- Monitor adherence to contractual and service-level agreements with retail.
- Manage risks associated with retail relationships and business acquisition.
- Conduct due diligence before on-boarding new retail clients.
- Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation.
Reporting & Strategy
- Prepare, present or submit periodic sales on retail performance premium income and market trends.
- Prepare annual strategic plans and budgets.
- Recommend actions to improve retail engagement and sales outcomes.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the retail function
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field
- Professional Qualification Diploma in Insurance, ACII, CIM
- Relevant experience 6 years and above
- MBA Added advantage
