DFCU Bank is a fast growing commercial bank offering a variety of innovative products and services. DFCU Limited was started by the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) of the United Kingdom and the Government of Uganda through the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC) under the name of Development Finance Company of Uganda Limited. Later restructuring brought in DEG (of Germany) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) as equal partners with CDC and UDC, each having a 25% stake in the company. Its objective was to support long-term development projects whose financing needs and risk did not appeal to the then existing financial commercial lending institutions.

 

Job Summary: Reporting to Branch Manager, the role holder will implement work plans in line with risk management, processes, customer experience, people management and manage the general operations function of the branch by attending to all routine control issues and all aspects of asset custodianship in accordance with the laid down procedures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage risk by monitoring cash holdings against insurance limits to reduce exposure to loss.
  • Resolve and attend to all risk and Audit issues raised in the Branch in a timely manner and avoid recurrence as per laid down procedures.
  • Check the branch records to ensure that internal controls and policies are adhered to for effective internal controls.
  • Carry out key control self-assessment for the branch to self-evaluate the performance of controls around processes, products, services, people capabilities/skills, systems, communication and learning in the branch.
  • Manage work / process flows within the operations of the branch to ensure compliance with process guidelines and to minimize frauds.
  • Routine monitoring of key branch suspense accounts, actioning of reconciliation reports received from the Head Office Reconciliation Unit to prompt investigation of outstanding entries and reversal of wrong entries to prevent losses.
  • Monitoring of cash holdings against insurance and BOU limits to ensure the branch is within the approved limits.
  • Manage branch cash reserves, ensure dual of strong room is maintained at all times.
  • Verification of Financial Data for effective internal controls, data quality and to avoid financial loss.
  • Supervise the day-to-day operational aspects of the branch for effective & efficient branch operations & deliverables e.g., payment & referral authorization for a great customer experience.
  • Provide knowledge, skill, and develop a motivated result-oriented team to achieve high productivity and performance and ensure continuous staff availability through effective leave scheduling for efficiency and high-quality staff. Appraise direct reports.
  • Primary custodian of all branch assets i.e., Branch cash, keys and other tangible assets including their security, usage, and maintenance to avoid financial loss.
  • Check to ensure that suspicious transactions are recorded and referred to the branch manager & compliance team in accordance with Anti-money laundering policies.
  • Maintaining the key register by ensuring that dual control is in place for proper control of prime keys and combination settings to safeguard bank assets.
  • Oversee ATM operations in accordance with the laid down procedures and ensure that clients have easy access to cash and fraud opportunities are minimized.
  • Manage branch user rights and controlled system access in the branch by maintaining an up-to-date user matrix as per set limits for effective internal control and to minimize fraud.
  • Authorize customer instructions for processing in a timely manner to ensure customer satisfaction.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:




  • University Degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum Banking experience of 5 years.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of banking operations.
  • Ability to deal with routine problems of varying levels of complexity.
  • Intermediate interpersonal communication skills to explain bank policies and procedures.
  • Independent judgment in making decisions of both operational and administrative nature
  • Ability to supervise and train staff, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Ability to interpret workflows, and operational procedures.
  • Have good performance management skills.
  • Good problem and conflict resolution skills.
  • Analytical and decision-making skills.
  • People management & decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of the bank’s laid down policies and procedures relating to all areas under control
  • Knowledge of bank products and services.
  • Knowledge of set customer experience standards.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of banking operations.
  • Ability to deal with routine problems of varying levels of complexity.
  • Drives to accomplish important outcomes & achieve results.
  • Thinks deeply, logically, and analytically.
