Job Summary: Exquisite Solution Limited, a leading HR recruitment and management company is seeking a Transport Safety Manager to join our client’s dynamic team in the logistics and manufacturing industry. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing workplace safety across all transport and operational areas, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and fostering a strong safety culture. This role involves conducting risk assessments, managing safety training programs, investigating incidents, and implementing effective safety measures
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular inspections of vehicles, equipment, and facilities to identify hazards, enforce safety standards, and verify compliance with maintenance schedules.
- Ensure adherence to national and regional safety regulations, acting as the primary point of contact during audits and inspections.
- Evaluate operational risks such as driver fatigue, load handling, weather conditions, and vehicle performance, and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Develop, implement, and routinely update safety and health policies specific to transport operations, working closely with management to integrate them into daily practices.
- Deliver onboarding and ongoing safety training for staff covering defensive driving, emergency procedures, and general safety awareness while keeping content up to date with legal and industry developments.
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and violations by conducting root cause analyses, coordinating with legal and insurance teams, and recommending corrective actions.
- Oversee vehicle and equipment safety by monitoring brakes, tires, lighting, and ergonomic factors in loading and unloading processes, ensuring thorough documentation of all checks and maintenance.
- Develop and maintain contingency plans for accidents, breakdowns, and natural disasters, while ensuring all vehicles and depots are equipped with first aid kits and emergency supplies.
- Monitor safety performance through audits, trend analysis, and reporting, using findings to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote a proactive safety culture by collaborating with HR, fleet managers, and drivers, and integrating safety considerations into every stage of transport planning.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science or related field.
- At least 5 years of hands-on safety management experience within the logistics, transport, or manufacturing industries.
- Possession of professional safety certifications such as NEBOSH, CSP, or OHST is highly preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with various stakeholders.
- A track record of successfully leading safety initiatives, including audits, training programs, incident investigations, and safety improvement projects.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel extensively across Uganda for site visits, audits, and inspections.
