Job Summary: UYDEL seeks a passionate and qualified Mental Health Nurse to support adolescent girls through psychosocial interventions under a new 36 months climate-resilience and reproductive health initiative entitled Building Climate-Resilient Communities for Safe Pregnancies in Adolescents/Youth. This Initiative will be implemented by UYDEL in partnership with Comic Relief under the Uzazi Salama Programme: Community support for safe and healthy pregnancy in Uganda. The nurse will provide mental health services, promote emotional well-being, and strengthen community support systems for safe pregnancies in adolescent youth aged 15-24 years and climate-affected communities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct mental health assessments and provide counseling to adolescent girls and their partners.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions and psychoeducation workshops.
- Collaborate with community health workers and project staff to integrate mental health
- into broader climate-resilience and SRHR programming.
- Train peer educators and caregivers on mental health awareness and referral pathways.
- Monitor and report on mental health trends and outcomes within the project.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Diploma or Degree in Mental Health Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing.
- Registration with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with adolescents, preferably in community or NGO settings.
- Knowledge of climate change impacts on mental health and reproductive health is an added advantage.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills.
Desirable Attributes:
- Empathetic and culturally sensitive.
- Experience working in low-resource or climate-affected communities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
