Job Summary: The Cooperation and Cultural Action Service (SCAC) of the French Embassy in Uganda is recruiting a project manager in charge of promoting French higher education in Uganda and providing general support to the SCAC.
Reporting directly to the Educational and Cultural Cooperation Officer and the COCAC, the mission officer will be responsible for: “Promotion of French higher education in Uganda” component:
Management of the two Campus France locations (the Campus France Space hosted within the Alliance Française de Kampala (AFK) and its branch located at Makerere University) and implementation of all related activities (promotion of French higher education, reception and advice to students during office hours, running the “France Alumni-Uganda” platform, organization of events, etc.).
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strengthening the visibility and volume of activities of the Espace Campus France-Ouganda, in particular by ensuring a proportional and effective presence on the 2 sites (the Alliance Française de Kampala and Makerere University);
- Reception, information and support for students considering following a course of study in France (information on the courses offered, writing advice – CV, cover letter, writing DAP files, etc.);
- Support and advice for candidates for departure and/or scholarship holders when putting together their files and/or before they set off (awareness and preparation sessions for departure, information on visas, etc.)
- Participation in the selection of candidates applying for a scholarship;
- Production of practical sheets, FAQs and other documentation for students;
- Conducting information meetings in Ugandan establishments, high schools and universities;
- Monitoring the mobility of students who have benefited from a study grant;
- Participation in workshops/webinars occasionally set up by Campus France Paris and by French higher education establishments;
- Maintaining databases listing all alumni (former students and interns) who have been to France;
- Management and animation of the “France Alumni Uganda” platform
- Organization of events and visits to promote studies in France (in high schools and universities in the country, for the alumni network, etc.)
- 2/ “General support for the SCAC” component :
- Within the embassy team and supporting the 4 agents who compose it, the project manager will be in charge of monitoring the actors of the Francophonie (French club, universities, AFK, APFO, etc.) and the ongoing execution of the annual program (scholarships, missions and invitations, etc.). He/she may also be called upon on an ad hoc basis to carry out other tasks, in line with his/her level of qualification and within the limits of the SCAC’s portfolio of activities.
- Monitoring of university and research cooperation partnerships (in conjunction with the Educational and Cultural Cooperation Officer);
- Monitoring of actions related to the Francophonie and the promotion of French culture (Francophonie month, activities of French clubs, promotion of French in schools, for example) in support of the educational and cultural cooperation officer;
- On-going implementation of the annual CROCUS program (in particular scholarships + exchange of expertise) on programs 185 ‘Cultural and influential diplomacy’ and 209 ‘Solidarity with developing countries’;
- Support for the preparation and implementation of various event activities (e.g. “Geopolitics of Kampala”, activities linked to the Alliance Française and the French International School of Kampala, etc.);
- Carrying out any other task related to his/her level of qualification and within the limits of the SCAC portfolio of activities, in support of the SCAC team.
- Writing and updating fact sheets on the Ugandan education system.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (Master’s in FLE, languages, communication, development cooperation, international relations, human and social sciences or any other course relevant to the position).
Required skills
- Excellent command of English (level C1) and French (level C1);
- Knowledge of how French higher education works (ideally having studied in France or in the French system)
- Excellent knowledge of the Ugandan education system;
- Master’s degree in FLE, languages, communication, development cooperation, international relations, human and social sciences or any other course relevant to the position
- Adaptability and organizational skills, ease of public speaking, human relations skills, dynamism, administrative rigor, budget management
