About Organisation:
Kakira Sugar Limited (KSL) is a leading sugar manufacturer in Uganda. KSL boasts of two sugar estates, one in Kakira – Jinja and the other in Kayunga.
Job Summary: The Assistant Quality Controller is responsible for testing and analysis of incoming raw material/ packaging, blends and finished product.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Testing and recording measurements of various product attributes.
- Analysing raw and packaging material, blends and finished product samples daily for quality, durability, safety and known product specifications before the final stage of production.
- Comparing these measurements against a pre-defined standard specification Monitoring production practices to ensure compliance with Quality Control procedure.
- Providing assistance to production staff where necessary regarding the Quality Control procedures.
- Completion of documentation to show that tests have been carried out and recording whether the product met the standards.
- When defects are found – they are analysed and carefully logged into production documentation.
- Communicates with management and other team members when problems arise and offer possible solutions to help highlight any deviations during manufacturing.
- Works together with supporting functions to find solutions and implement new protocols and procedures in response to deviations.
- Compiling test measurements and outcomes into reports for senior colleagues.
- Seeks answers and information regarding customer or in-house problems with product quality or performance by investigating all parts of the production process. Documents quality assurance practices by entering data into logbooks, noting information in computer databases and recording all inventory and actions.
- Ensures all site documentation is maintained according to Quality Standards. Ensures that the finished product meets all regulatory and statutory requirements. Conducts internal audits to ensure compliance to Quality and Food Safety Requirements.
- Maintains Laboratory equipment and conducts routine calibration of this equipment. Follows Good Laboratory Practices at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Maintains regular attendance
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Degree or Diploma in a Science or Quality related field
- At least 1 year working in a manufacturing facility in a related role.
- ISO 9001 or Food Safety Training C1.2 Experience, Skills and Competences:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Quality and Food Safety Standards (ISO 9001, HACCP)
- Good Laboratory Practices
- Statistics and Mathematics
- Excellent documentation and presentation skills
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft office
