Zembo Motorcycles SMC Limited is leading the African transition to electric mobility. Based in Kampala, Uganda, we provide affordable (PayGo) electric two-wheelers to low-income motorcycle-taxi drivers, most known locally as “boda-boda ”drivers. We offer a battery swapping service to our clients, enabling to swap within minutes at any of our stations.
Job Summary: Own the integrity, availability, and cost control of Zembo’s inventory and fixed assets. Build simple, scalable systems for stock accuracy, rapid replenishment, and audit-ready documentation across motorcycles, batteries, swap cabinets, spare parts, tools, and station equipment. Be the linking pin between Zembo’s operational team and the Finance team.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Inventory system and data integrity
- Replace scattered Google Sheets with one inventory system, clear ownership, and access controls.
- Build the SKU master (codes, UoM, categories, BOM where relevant) and set min–max, safety stock, and reorder points.
- Implement barcoding or QR for receiving, transfers, and issues.
- Run weekly reconciliations: GRN to PO to invoice; stock ledger to Finance; cycle counts to book.
- Publish a dashboard covering accuracy, stock-outs, aging, turns, and shrinkage.
Warehouse setup and operations
- Set up a small but compliant warehouse: layout, racking, bin locations, security, HSE, and 5S.
- Write and enforce SOPs for receiving, put-away, picking, dispatch, returns, and non-conformance.
- Staff and train storekeepers; run cycle counts and quarterly wall-to-wall counts with variance resolution.
- Procure-to-stock through procurement system
- Configure the procurement system (Precoro) catalog for stock items with SKU codes and UoM.
- Ensure all stock procurement follows PR → approval → PO in Precoro with thresholds and maker–checker controls.
- Align GRN and stock updates so the procurement system, the inventory ledger, and Finance stay in sync.
- Train requesters and approvers; monitor compliance and fix leaks.
- Fixed asset register and tagging
- Clean and reconcile the fixed asset register with Finance.
- Tag all fixed assets (barcode or QR), record location, custodian, and condition.
- Run periodic verification and support capitalization, transfers, impairment, and disposals.
- Motorbike asset and document ownership
- Own custody and movement records for motorbikes prior to sale or deployment.
- Maintain complete ownership documents (registration, logbooks, insurance, transfers) with Legal and Compliance.
- Ensure handover packs are complete and auditable at delivery or sale.
- Cross-team coordination and communication
- Establish a RACI across Inventory, Procurement, Logistics, Technical Operations, and Finance.
- Run a weekly stock review with actions on stock-outs, slow movers, and replenishment.
- Define SLAs for internal customers and an escalation path for urgent items.
Controls, risk, and audit readiness
- Enforce segregation of duties in stores and approvals.
- Set variance thresholds, investigate root causes, implement corrective actions.
- Keep audit-ready documents for receipts, issues, adjustments, and approvals.
- Ensure HSE compliance and correct import handovers and insurance coverage.

- Single source of truth live: SKU master created, bin locations mapped, barcoded stock movements active for top 100 SKUs.
- Warehouse operational with SOPs enforced and first wall-to-wall count completed; opening variances reconciled with corrective actions.
- Min–max and reorder points set for top 100 SKUs; weekly stock review cadence running with Procurement and Technical Operations.
- Procurement system procure-to-stock flow enabled (PR → approval → PO → GRN); ≥ 90% of stock purchases through the Procurement system.
- Fixed asset register cleaned and reconciled; 100% of high-value assets tagged and verified.
- Motorbike ownership files standardized; 100% completeness for in-custody units (registration, logbook, insurance).
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s in Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, Business or related field
- 5+ years in inventory or warehouse management in manufacturing, mobility, energy, or logistics
- Hands-on experience with min–max, cycle counts, and inventory KPIs
- Strong Excel and data skills; familiarity with barcoding or stock tools
- Team leadership and cross-functional collaboration
- Preferred
- Experience integrating inventory with accounting or ERP tools
- Knowledge of import documentation and customs coordination
- Exposure to motorcycle or automotive parts, or multi-site field operations
- Supply chain or inventory certification is a plus
