Job Summary: The Uganda Program & Operations Coordinator is an action-oriented, adaptive global leader who is excited about accelerating the connection and professional growth of our community members.
The Uganda Program & Operations Coordinator stewards GHC’s program and operations in Uganda, including the Africa Leadership Accelerator (ALA) and alumni programming. They work in collaboration with colleagues to oversee all Uganda operations and logistics, including events management, annual registration, fellow recruitment and selection implementation logistics, and finances.
Additionally, the Program & Operations Coordinator manages a portfolio of Uganda alumni programming, supporting the efforts of Alumni community in Uganda to fortify their network, effect health systems change and grow as leaders.
The Program & Operations Coordinator will report to the Rwanda & Uganda Country Director, and they will also receive substantial support from the Rwanda Operations Coordinator, who will help to manage Uganda country operations and finances.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Coordination and Fellow Support
- Support in managing the ALA Uganda fellow recruitment process, including developing and executing a countrywide outreach strategy.
- Coordinate the ALA Uganda fellow selection process, including reviewing applications, interviewing, and ranking candidates.
- Support the onboarding of all new fellows in both the programmatic and logistical preparations to start the GHC fellowship.
- Serve as a key point of contact for fellows in Uganda throughout the year, coordinating general fellowship program logistics; ensure fellows complete all program commitments.
- Organize and co-conduct regular coaching calls and check-ins with fellows, offering supportive accompaniment through professional and personal development during the fellowship year.
- Organize country-based activities and events for fellows to foster community-building and leadership development.
- Manage events in Uganda, including identifying and contracting venues, managing venues, coordinating participant travel, and managing health, safety, and security requirements.
Partnership Development
- Support in maintaining and cultivating a portfolio of potential ALA partner organizations through outreach and networking efforts.
- Support in facilitating partner agreements and cost-share negotiations with ALA partner organizations.
- Support ALA supervisors through occasional check-ins and resource sharing.
Uganda Alumni Community Engagement
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with GHC alumni in Uganda to support the mobilization of community members.
- Liaise with the Country Director to identify, organize, and execute opportunities for public engagement, professional development, and knowledge sharing for the Uganda alumni community.
- Organize networking events, particularly in conjunction with large Global Health conferences and events in the region, including managing relationships with advisors, partner organizations, and global health leaders.
- Coordinate and support Uganda alumni chapter efforts to implement the national strategy and collective action coalitions, and plan chapter programming and activities.
- Work closely with the Country Director and the Community Impact team to help design and expand alumni activities in alignment with the GHC alumni program strategy.
- Support planning, logistics, and implementation of in-person events in Uganda or the East Africa region for alumni, such as leadership summits or retreats
Country Operations
- With support from the operations team, ensure that GHC meets all legal entity requirements in Uganda, including entity registration / NGO permit, filing annual returns with government regulatory bodies, conducting compliance assessments/audits, managing storage of entity filings, managing vendors (e.g. staff health insurance provider), office management, etc.
- With support from the operations team, ensure that GHC remains compliant with all finance and accounting obligations, including bank account management, submitting monthly funds requests, submitting expense reports, making timely payments to vendors, and submitting relevant documentation.
- Co-develop and manage the Uganda country budget.
External Relations / Communications
- Represent GHC at Uganda networking events, as available
- Support the communications and development teams in resource mobilization and building GHC’s profile as requested, for example, by submitting information for donor reports, identifying fellows to include in external materials, engaging with potential supporters in Uganda, etc.
- Support the drafting and dissemination of emails to the GHC community and draft stories of GHC alumni activities and achievements for stakeholders.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s Degree (required), Minimum 5 years of experience working at the intersection of program and operations, preferably in an international Non-profit, or other global organization.
- Minimum 3 years of program experience in Uganda
- Experience coaching and/or mentoring; preferably in developing early-career professionals
- Cross-cultural competency; experience working in another country or in a cross-cultural environment strongly preferred
- Strong project and logistics management skills and excellent attention to detail
- A proven track record of delivering high-quality work products on time and providing strategic
- insight into how to develop efficiencies in work processes
- Experience with budgeting, contract negotiation, and vendor and compliance management

You may have been involved in compliance activities such as registering an International Non-profit, securing MoUs, getting necessary certificates, and staying tax compliant. You have experience in basic office finances and accounting, including managing bank accounts, submitting monthly expense reports, making payments to vendors, and performing bookkeeping tasks.

$20,000 – $22,000 a year
