About the Hope Project

In the next 4 years, 6 months (June 2025-Decemberr 2029), ZOA will work with partners to deliver WASH, Land, MHPSS and Livelihoods activities for refugee and host communities. In doing so, ZOA will intentionally seek to build the capacity of these local partners and ensure equitable partnerships when it comes to resource allocation, representation, and decision making.

ZOA Uganda is looking for a Project Coordinator to be based in Kiryandongo Office.

Job Summary: The Project Coordinator, with support from the Deputy Program Manager Acholi is responsible for the day-to-day WASH coordination around the planning and implementation of activities under the project in Kiryandongo refugee settlement and host community in Kiryandongo District.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

General

  • Support needs assessments, project reviews, and post-project impact assessments as needed and advised;
  • Actively participate in preparation of proposals, CN, technical description, and budget development jointly with the project team members .
  • Produce detail implementation plan for the WASH component of the project in the host community and refugees. Periodically, update and ensure that progress in accordance with the plan.
  • Ensure that WASH projects are implemented in a timely and professional manner, according to goal, objectives, and indicators and in line with ZOA, Ugandan government and donor requirements.
  • Ensure proper documentation of WASH activities/data and experiences by the local partner and the community structure.
  • Conduct regular monitoring and technical support visits to project sites and camps;
  • Actively participate in the review of WASH activity plan, Spending plan and procurement plan and ensure timely delivery.
  • Coordinates project activities in line with the workplan to achieve optimal project outputs and outcomes in line with ZOA/donor procedures and targets;
  • Support the Deputy program manager in conducting WASH capacity needs assessment with the local partner organization implementing the wash component of the project

Reporting

  • Provide inputs to implementation plans and activity/monthly reports;
  • Identify, document lessons learned and best practices;
  • Prepare and submit well written success stories;
  • Contribute to project reports or implementation plans as required by supervisor;
  • Collect monitoring data according to ZOA’s systems and activities in the project;
  • Representation and coordination with relevant partners in Kiryandongo context on issues around WASH
  • Actively participate in the required and relevant technical working groups;
  • Participate in relevant coordination meetings concerning the project.
  • Regular coordination with local government actors and relevant district offices; OPM, UNHCR and other NGO partners.
  • Contact with other project specific actors, e.g. consultants or service providers.

Human Resource Management

  • Ensure the Hygiene promoters have weekly and monthly targets;
  • Conduct weekly or monthly meeting to achieve targets;
  • Provide technical support through coaching and mentorship of hygiene promoters for quality implementation of project activities.
  • Ensure procurement request are put on system for approval and finance requested accordingly
  • Initiate timely purchase requisition of project goods/services;
  • Ensure expenses within outcome 3 are in line with approved budget;
  • Provide appropriate codes for expenses.

Accountability

  • Sensitize all stakeholders (beneficiaries, service providers, partners, government and other) on feedback and complaint mechanisms implemented by ZOA Uganda
  • Upon receipt of a complaint or feedback, ensure that it is correctly documented following correct reporting procedures
  • Understand ZOA’s code of conduct and safeguarding policies, ensure adherence to these policies and that project activities are implemented with a “Do No Harm” approach

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Knowledge & Experience:

  • University degree in Hydraulic Engineering, Water Resource Engineering, environmental or public health or other related fields.
  • 2 + years’ experience in WASH, preferably in a humanitarian setting (refugee camps, rural development, or emergency response) for first degree
  • Experience in localization approaches and working with local organizations
  • A good command of English, including written reporting and activity reporting
  • Experience of working with People with Disabilities is a plus
  • Experience working in the refugee settlement context is a plus

Skills:

  • High level of networking capacities
  • Experience of data analysis software (Arc GIS and SPSS) is an asset
  • Experience of Engineering Software (Watercad, Epanet and Auto CAD etc)
  • Knowledge of domestic water supply system hydraulic design
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal
  • Able to bridge differences and bring people together from different backgrounds
  • Motivated to work independently / self-managing
  • Good computer skills: Ms Excel and Ms Word;
  • Self-motivator, able to take initiatives with limited supervision;
  • Ability to drive a motorcycle with valid driving/riding license is a MUST.
