Reach One Touch One Ministries (ROTOM) is a non-denominational Christian organization reaching out to older persons and children in their care. It was started in Uganda in 2003 and has grown to become one of the most effective mission organizations supporting older persons in Uganda and Ethiopia.
Job Summary: To provide high-quality and evidence-based physiotherapy services to patients in the
outpatient department and inpatient wards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assess, diagnose, and administer appropriate treatment to patients with various musculoskeletal conditions, presenting movement disorders and physical disabilities.
- Assess rehabilitation needs and recommend appropriate interventions for all patients, attending outpatient clinics and inpatient wards.
- Asses for the need, prescribe and train proper use of orthotics and assistive devices based on individual patient requirements.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for all physiotherapy patients, attending outpatient department and in patient wards.
- Recommend appropriate referrals for further specialized management and screening, to Physiotherapy patients requiring transfers and other specialized services.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including medical officers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, for holistic management of patients under their care.
- Provide education and evidence-based information on injury prevention, health promotion, and occupational hazard management to both patients and staff where required.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for Physiotherapy patient
- assessments, treatment plans, and progression at ROTOM Health Center
- Provide prompt caseload management and follow up on discharged physiotherapy patients, ensuring continued case monitoring.
- Participate in continuous professional development to stay updated on best
- healthcare practices.
- Participate in all healthcare outreaches organized by ROTOM Health centres as may be required by the healthcare manager.
- Provide monthly clinic reports on patient attendances, income and supplies of the Physiotherapy department.
- Any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in Physiotherapy.
- Current registration certificate and practicing license from Uganda Allied Health Professionals Council.
- Communication Skills: Physiotherapists need to effectively communicate with patients to explain treatment plans, exercises, and progress. Active listening and the ability to understand a patient’s concerns are also crucial.
- Empathy and Compassion: Patients seeking physiotherapy often experience pain and emotional distress. Demonstrating empathy and compassion can build trust and improve patient engagement.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Physiotherapists need to analyze patient conditions, develop tailored treatment plans, and adapt their approach as needed. This requires strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking.
- Clinical Expertise: A solid understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and physiotherapy techniques is essential. This includes knowledge of manual therapy, exercise prescription, and other therapeutic modalities.
- Interpersonal Skills: Physiotherapists work closely with patients, so strong interpersonal skills are vital. This includes being approachable, motivating, and able to build rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Organization and Time Management: Physiotherapists often manage multiple patients and appointments. Excellent organizational and time management skills are necessary to prioritize tasks and ensure efficient patient care.
- Teamwork Skills: Physiotherapists frequently collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as doctors, nurses, and occupational therapists. Effective teamwork is essential for coordinated patient care.
- Adaptability and Flexibility: Physiotherapists need to be adaptable and flexible to adjust treatment plans based on patient progress and changing circumstances.
- Continuous Learning: The field of physiotherapy is constantly evolving, so physiotherapists should be committed to lifelong learning and staying updated on the latest research and techniques.

- Physical Stamina and Dexterity: The job requires physical exertion, including assisting patients with exercises and using manual therapy techniques. Strong physical stamina and dexterity are important for performing these tasks effectively
