Job Summary: The Head of Technical Department is responsible for leading the design, deployment, maintenance, and optimization of all technical infrastructure and network systems. This role ensures high availability, reliability, and performance of services across all B2B and B2C platforms, while driving innovation, operational excellence, and compliance with regulatory standards
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee planning, deployment, and maintenance of core and access network infrastructure (fiber, wireless, IP, data centers).
- Ensure network uptime, scalability, and fault tolerance in line with SLA commitments.
- Lead upgrades and expansion to support business growth and regional coverage.
- Develop and execute technical strategies aligned with the company’s vision and digital roadmap.
- Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to improve performance and competitiveness.
- Ensure technical readiness and support for new product launches and service activations.
- Resolve complex escalations related to connectivity, latency, or outages.
- Manage, coach, and mentor a cross-functional technical team across different geographies.
- Establish KPIs for technical team performance, service response, and problem resolution.
- Ensure adherence to UCC, NITA-U, and international standards for network operations and security.
- Manage vendor relationships, SLAs, and technical procurement processes.
- Work closely with product, commercial, and operations teams to align infrastructure with market demand.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Professional certifications (e.g., Cisco CCNP/CCIE, Juniper, Huawei, PMP, ITIL) are an advantage.
- Minimum 8–10 years of experience in technical and network roles within ISP, telecom, Fintech industries.
- At least 3 years in a leadership or head of department position.
- Proven experience in fiber network design, IP/MPLS, core routing, wireless technologies, and network security.
- Strong understanding of regulatory and technical compliance in Uganda and regional markets.
